Evil Eye is correct on the n speed being an open standard. Its up to you if you want to make the n speed jump. Or I guess g speed will be fine and upgrade later. |

as far as wireless not being able to handle bandwidth, that is funny I run a mix of wired and wireless (I have a total of 12 computers, 1 XBOX 360, and also use Voice over IP for my phone). I transfer HUGE amounts of data on a regular basis as I work out of the house when I am in town. Transferring 10Gb virtual machine images up and down on one computer, while my son is on the xbox, the wife is on the internet, and I am playing Battlefield 2 on another computer all at the same time. no problems. I get 15Mb down on my Inet connection, but wireless does not create a bottleneck or hamper productivity. I agree wired is MUCH MUCH Faster, but for 'most' people they will never move enough data to 'require' wired over wireless. Security is the most important factor in wireless, do not use WEP, it is pretty much useless, you want a router and cards than can do WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK. I run the Apple Airport Extreme router which has a gigabit switch, runs about $180 though. The cheapest route would definitely be wired, it will just be a pain in the a$$ to run the wire. The wireless adapter for the 360 is like $100 new. I don't think it can accept anything but the MS adapter, but not 100% sure to be honest. To use another adapter you would need to be able to load drivers of some sort which u cannot do on the XBOX? With wired, you have all the 'clients' taken care of, just need to get the wall plates and such and get ready to hate a fish tape Good Luck!!

The Netgear WGE111 lets you link your game console to a wireless network, eliminating a tangle of wires. The Netgear WGE111 54 Mbps Wireless Game Adapter offers the perfect solution. It can be attached to a game console's Ethernet port to link to console to a wireless network for Internet gaming. For LAN (AdHoc) gaming, two WGE111 or more units can be used to link two game consoles to each other, without a wireless router even being needed Ð ideal for LAN parties. An external switch allows users to easily select between Internet and AdHoc modes, and the WGE111 is interoperable with 802.11b and 802.11g devices. The one i have Or they are called Wireless Bridges Last edited by HunterJ : 09-05-2008 at 09:05 PM. |
