I put the recon clear cab lights on my truck and I am kinda disappointed with the quality..First off I have one that always has moisture in it only one of the 5.. then today I was washing my truck and noticed orange/rust streaks on the roof I was like wtf ?? so I look closer and all the screws that come with the recon lights are rusted to shiat and they have stained the roof to the point I had to break out the buffer and go over the roof then when I tried to unscrew them the heads are crumbling rotted.. I dont know what kind of cheap a$$ screws they sent out but now I have to figure out how I'll get them out with out drilling and then go get some stainless screws to replace them with..guess its not a good idea to have the screws recessed so they get covered in water/salt from winter driving...


not a real big deal but to anyone putting them on your truck go get some good stainless screws cause the ones that come with the lights suck and to recon lighting I say

Chris, do you have some pics so we could see what you are talking about? Sucks for sure, man! I had always believed them to be high quality, but I guess not...

Personally I would never get recon stuff ever agian. They are cool items but in reality they are pos's that are made in china. I have the smoked mirror lenses and the drivers side was a pain and doesn't fit flush. When they fade or break I'm gonna paint my amber lights black and put those back in. At least I was able to pass on my recon strobe light kit for $200 to some sucker.

you know, i hate these recon threads cause i always get all riled up. they suck, plain and simple, i went through 3, yes 3 sets of mirror turn signals and they still dont fit right.... i tried to get them to do something about it, but they finally told me it was my truck that was the problem, not the lights..... i planned on getting the smoked tails and some cab lights but the mirror light experience really put a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Recon lighting. sorry for the rant, but i feel better now.

I never took pics .. Ill try to tomorrow.. the recon lights are held in with 2 screws each.. so the screws are counter sunk in the plastic housing.. well it fills up with water and salt then the screws rust when ever water gets in their it gets orange from rusty screw heads you drive the water ends up out of the holes it drys and you get rust stains/streaks.. I'm going to try to remove them tomorrow and go get some stainless screws ... wish I bought the oem ones from ford the ones on my 99 F550 haven't rusted and its 10 years old and always on the road in the salt and snow...

That's good to know. I've been wanting to get the smoked cab and turn lenses. Maybe now I won't.

i just reused the factory screws..

also once you break that factory seal.you should run a lil' silicone around the bottom edge..just for a tight seal..

but..even factory OCL will fog..that's why the clear is kinda a bad idea..smoked is better..it hides the moisture.

Yeah I just reused the factory screws too along with the gaskets and haven't had any issues with moisture or rust, just had to be careful putting the dark lenses in making sure they were sitting on those gaskets correctly...The mirror lens issue is crazy...Mine went in like cake, the hardest part was understanding how the stock ones came out thankfully I broke one of those and not one of the new ones...but still...

people have to understand fitment of aftermarket parts are never gonna fit like OEM parts..no matter how expensive they are.I have all the recon stuff on my truck,cab lights,mirror signals, fenders lights and third brake light..

mirror fitment wasn't perfect..But i didnt expect them to fit perfectly..its the name of the game
