Aviation during the civil war

I didn't realize either side had an Air Force to speak of during the Civil War. The writer is probably a product of the DISD (Dallas Independent School District).

Actually, can't remember what they called them exactly, but they did have a "force in the air"....they used hot air ballons for observations of the battlefields.

Just another stupid fact outta my brain.
