V10 guys.....

So my wife and i are in the market for something larger... currently i have 2 F150's that only sit 5 people and she drives a focus.. we have 3 kids now and are in the process to foster to adopt a 4th. so the problem is that we just dont fit..

here is the dilemma. My wife wants a min van... i want a SUV.. reason being is that we cant tow crap with a mini van. i have her pretty convinced on a SUV.

next problem is what SUV... she likes the expeditions ( we would be getting a 05-07) i like excursions... now im having a hard time buying a diesel excursion because they are about 10k more than the regular v10 version... we only tow our TH a few times a year so im looking to see if a V10 excursion is going to fit what we want...

now i know they dont get great MPG but i wanted to see if anyone had some real world MPG claims on these engines....

so lets hear it... what kind of MPG are you getting out of your V10?

-Raul

Whew man your looking at about 9-10 mpg in the ex, my dad has an 02 ccsb v10 and that thing just gulps gas. I also had a v10 dodge sclb manual which idk how well you can compare but it too got about 9-10 if i was lucky and stayed out of the fun pedal

I don't drive my V-10 as much as I used to, it's a 2001 F-250 ex cab, 4x4 long bed. The last time I checked it would get up to 13 mpg on a good day, 9-10 average. I really like how the v10 performs and my employees really like the truck as well, it's dependable, hardly sees the shop except for maintenance and tune ups. If you do purchase a V-10, make sure to replace the spark plugs and install new ones the proper way. My V-10 spit a spark plug and had to rebuild, rebuild wasn't done right, and now has new engine . The V-10 is a beast and a very quiet one.

I had an 03 cclb V10 and averaged about 15 on the highway, 11-12 in town. One of my work trucks is an F550 V10 with 4:88's and believe it or not I still get 10-11 on the highway with the truck and trailer weighing about 20k. I've always liked the V10s, I actually looked at buying another one today.

My best friend has a 2002 Econoline V10 with 205,000 miles and it gets 15 mpg highway. And that's loaded with him, his wife and all 5 of their kids. Best I've ever heard, but he swears by it!

My dad had a 2000 F250 2WD SCSB V10 and it was a very solid motor but like everyone else is saying it loves to drink. My dad never towed with it, mainly city driving and he was always filling it up.

My buddy has a 2000 f350 crew cab long bed with the six speed. He gets right around 15mpg empty or towing a horse trailer.
