Sorry to tell you this Marc, but she is a pit. "Pit Bull" is a general term given to the breed. She is really an American StafFORDshire Terrier or Amstaff. But due to the red nose and pink eyelids, she can only be registered as an APBT. They get a bad rap because of the owners that misstreat and missuse their dogs. http://www.amstaff.org/

i was under the imprssion that an american bull terrior was a slightly different breed than a pit bull....but i guess im wrong.....
Any dog can be made mean.....i guess the biggest thing is that some breeds are more prone to it. It is all dependant on how they are raised though. I honestly have never meet a well raised pit, rottie, dobie, etc that was mean. The ONLY way a dog gets mean is with maltreatment. I guess what turns me off to pits is the "protective nature" and they seem to (some of it depending on household though) be more unpredicable than other "protective" breeds......
I am a HUGE dog lover though and both of my muts are rescue dogs. Jenna (the lab/goldie) was almost 30lbs overwieght (115lbs) when we got her. NOBODY would adopt her because of it. She was about two when we got her six months or so ago and she was down to wieght in 3 months and is a very nicely built dog. I cant beleave how much some dog owners dont understand about owning a dog. My dogs may get a tap on the nose occasionaly for minor things, but for any major behavior problems the get flipped on thier back roughly but not hard enough to hurt them and i grab thier throat firmly with my hand.....NOT hard enouth to hurt them but hard enough to make them know i mean business. I treat them just like thier mom would. If they try to "stare me down"....i stare at them till they give up. Jenna was terrible about this when we first brought her home from the pound. I broke her of it in three to four days...
My dogs sit and wait for permisson to come in the house from outside, same to go ouside of the front porch gait.......the also sit and wait for permission to eat meals AFTER is set the food down. My dogs are also NOT allowed in the kitchen EVER and know it.......All it takes is consitancy and you can teach a dog anything....but as im sure you know....if your mean to a dog, any dog can turn agressive!!!
