6.2L needs help
I got a 85 gmc with the 6.2 diesel in it! It has a hard time getting fired up in the morning. it doesnt matter if its warm or cold starting fluid has to be used! also it will start and run for about 20 seconds and then it sounds like it ran out of fuel. so is it something with the fuel filter housing? also it seems to idle really rough lately and it will die sometimes! i need help with reliability this truck is a storm chaser and i dont want it to break in the path of a storm!

Ya I have a few. Things I would check would be the fuel filters for clogs or anything followed by fuel/water seperator. Make sure there are no pin holes in the fuel lines to suck air. My '84 started doing this same thing a few years back and it turned out to be the lobe on the cam that pushes the mechanical fuel pump. Well me being lazy and cheep, I put an in line electrical fuel pump by the tamks to help out the mech fuel pump. The mech fuel pump still sucked fuel but with the worn out cam it coulden lift the fuel and puch it th the injection pump very well any more. After I put the electrical pump on it runs great for going on four years now. Hope that helps some |
