Its a good thing I love beer!
A very good thing.... but imagine my surprise a little while ago when I decided to go out to my garage fridge and grab a cold one... I open the door and my garage is FULL OF SMOKE!
I look down on the bottom step and immediately see the source. See, my wife smokes, and she just so happens to smoke in the garage, and when she's done, she puts her cigarette butts in the "ashtray", in which this case is an old plastic garbage can setting beside the steps leading in to my garage... So I open the garage door, grab the dam "ashtray" and its so darn hot in it the bottom falls out dropping hot plastic and red hot cig butts all over the place. Alright, so now I'm pissed... Lucky for me I have a handy dandy fire extiguisher about 3 feet away over my work bench, and quickly douse the flaming embers in a hail of some really nasty smelling (and tasting) powdery chit! Went in the house, grabbed a bucket of water and proceeded to douse everything down real good for good measure. Ok, tragedy averted... But it really pissed me off, it was right next to my recycle containers, there was a phone book on the step above it.... and only about a foot and a half from the front of my truck!!! And to think, if I didn't love to drink beer it would have been much worse. God, I love beer Don't think the wife will be smokin' in the garage much anymore... or at least she'd better figure out a better place to dispose of her butts!

I wish I could smoke in the garage. Always outside for me.

only rule I have is no smoking in the house, I hate that. Don't care about in the garage, but if she can't keep her butts picked up she can smoke outside from now on... Hell, I'm just mad. I'm sure she'll take better care of them from now on, especially now that I woke her up right afterwards and told her she started a fire... She wasn't sure to believe me at first until I said go out in the garage and have a look! Stinks like hell out there now with all the soggy butts and ABC extinguisher powder. I suppose I'd better go clean it up before I go to bed.

Yeah, Today I took an old paint can and filled it up with some cat litter for the ashtray.... I also went to walmart and bought another smoke alarm and installed it out there. Don't know why in the heck I didn't have one before. If I had one last night, being I was awake I'm sure I would have heard it. And I'm sooooo glad it wasn't any worse. Another 5 or 10 minutes would have been a different story.

Glad you caught it!!! Smoldering "butts" are def a smell you can't ignore!!! Even with amount of rain we get there are times in the winter and fall the coffee cans catch on "fire" and I can smell them. ICK! I'm kinda a smart a$$ but I won't tell you what my initial thought was.....
