I do change mine regularly, But to be safe, I also have 3 dogs, a cat, and two birds.
My fish don't count.

I at least hope one of them will make noise if ever needed.

Good reminder. I always do mine at the time change. Good reminder. I am sure if you have kids, they will be bringing some stuff home from your local fire department about fire safety and general safety around your house.
