Chevy, hahaha
friday i did my friend a favor while he was at work. he just got his pickup back from the shop after 6 months and it was runnin a little ruff so i decided to change the plugs and put some fuel additive in. so i do that and take it out to see how it runs when it starts to shift wierd so i took it for a longer cruise down the interstate, she ran good as new till i had to back up and had no reverse. so i took it into the shop to have the guy look at it, turns out the brand new tranny is shot. that is what u get with a chevy.

My truck is a 2000 7.3 PSD 350 Dually. Before that, I had a 1995 7.3 PSD 250. I couldn't get a tranny to last 20K on the 95 and by the time I had 85K, the tranny had been replaced or rebuilt five times. Still had 15K warranty but I wasn't going to let the dealer mess with it anymore (and these guys were friends of mine). My friend, Kent Magruder, told me who builds his racing trannies (he races Mustang and Torino Stock Cars). I took it to this guy, he rebuilt it and modified it so that the hydraulic pressure stayed up during the shifts and that tranny was going strong when I got rid of the truck at 288K. When my trucks need help, I don't take them to the dealers anymore. I have mechanics that do it right the first time (or second in some cases) and don't seem to have the same problems that my friends do (and I used to) with dealerships. (Sorry, no jab at factory mechanics). |

That explains how you know so much. You do a great job of explaining things to the guys on this forum. It is as you say, there are a lot of variables to getting the job done right. I know some of the problems I had with my tranny was that the dealership was limited to fixing the tranny the "Ford Authorized" way. Other times, you can have good mechanics and bad; service managers who listen to their clients and those who don't care. This can be at a dealership or garage. So, you can't paint everyone in the same category with the same brush. That is why I put the disclaimer re: factory mechanics. If I'd known you were going to follow me around, I'd have put in a couple more disclaimers to protect myself politically!! It takes time to find the right people to work on your rig -- unless you do the work yourself. I do simple things myself, like wash and wax and installing throttle body spacers. The hard stuff, I leave to people who have demonstrated that I can trust their work. The guys who work on my rig are the ones who have worked on all my heavy equipment for the past six or seven years. They aren't cheap -- but I don't have to pay them twice! |

very good explanation...and just so you know...i wansnt "following you around".....i was just online and i tend to watch the forum pretty closely cause as youve seen i answer a lot of questions and i hate missing responces from questions ive already responded too......because of that...i dont miss much in the evening....if my MSN messanger beeps and i hear it....i check it.......my computer is in the front room so that helps that..... also...i did not take offence to anything you said....for the most part factory shops have well trained guys so busy with warranty work that the less trained guy ends up with the customer pay....a lot of the time...this makes the shops efficency better...cause the warranty doesnt pay diddly....but it makes the guy actually paying the money get a less quality repair......this isnt the case with all shops...especially smaller ones...but it does affect some....it too bad causse there is a lot of knoledge going to waste at a lot of dealerships.....Marc |
