Gps

I have spent some time looking around on the internet at the available GPS units out there for automotive use, and I have found on in particular that I like, not having seen it in person, I just was curious if anyone had used one of these or had a recommendation for me! Thanks ya'll!!

Lowrance iWay 350c found here:

Any help here would be great, I have found this unit for as low as 375 bucks new on eBay.

I have a garmin 2610 that I put in my niece's car. It works real well. It uses CF cards to store the maps. A 2GB cards will store the entire U.S. In the truck I installed a Garmin 2720. It has an internal memory that has the whole U.S. and 750mb for routes. With the 2720 you can also have realtime traffic updates using a FM signal. ou need to pay for that though. I like the Garmin units as they will automaticall recalculate if you make a wrong turn. Keith

I have used the magellan's and they are great. Just look at the different ones and see which one in your price has more POI's.

thanks for the input guys, the iWay 350 recalculates, and has over 5 million POI's built in, I can't imagine it missing much. and i think a 4 GB hard drive, plus that wireless mp3 player looked pretty nice, keep the ideas coming!

Is this unit using 8 or 12 satellites. That is another thing to check out. I think now almost every unit uses 12 but it's worth making sure.

Built-in, precision 16-channel GPS+WAAS receiver

looks nice, it has a Built-in, precision 16-channel GPS+WAAS receiver

what ever you get make sure it has WAAS (wide area augmentation system)
wass narrows your location down to feet (at least in the aviation units)
i use a lowrance airmap 2000 http://www.lowrance.com/aviation/Products/AM2000C.asp for flying and love it. nice to know right where you are at, espically with all the new restricted airspace.
works good on the road too. i love punching in my destination and getting a running ETA.
lowrance makes a nice product anyway you look at it. you will probally have to buy updates for it from time to time.

I have a Magellan Meridian Gold that I use both in the truck & in the boat. I think the most important consideration is the available software for the unit. Garmin had software out long before the others and I regretted buying the Meridian. Finally, they have caught up, but it was frustrating.

Here's a couple of good GPS websites:
