Possible Wal-Mart Scam, Be alert!


This could happen at Any store.... I never thought of it.. but I'll pay attention now!!


Everyone,

This happened to me twice in the Mt. Airy Walmart! I caught it both
times but didn't know there was a scam.

It happened at Wal-Mart (Supercenter Store #1279, 10411 N Freeway 45,
Houston , TX 77037) a month ago. I bought a bunch of stuff, over $150,
& I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was handing me the bags. I saw
a cash-back of $40. I told her I didn't request a cash back & to delete it.

She said I'd have to take the $40 because she couldn't delete it. I told her
to call a supervisor. A supervisor came & said I'd have to take it. I said NO.
Taking the $40 would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn't paying
interest on a cash advance! If they couldn't delete it then they would have
to delete the whole order. So the supervisor had the cashier delete the
whole order & re-scan everything!

The second time I looked at the electronic pad before I signed and a cash-back
of $20 popped up. At that point I told the cashier & she deleted it. The total
came out right. The cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be defective.

Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad was defective because she
NEVER offered me the $40 at the beginning. Can you imagine how many people
went through before me and at the end of her shift how much money she pocketed?

Just to alert everyone. My co worker went to Milford, DE Walmart last week. She
had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried her along and didn't give
her a receipt. So she he asked the cashier for a receipt and the cashier was annoyed
and reluctantly gave it to her. My co worker didn't look at her receipt until later
that night. And she discovered the receipt showed that she asked for $20 cash back.
BUT SHE HADN't ASKED FOR CASH BACK!

My co worker called Walmart who investigated but could not see the cashier pocket
the money. She then called her niece who works for the bank and her niece told her this. There is a scam going on.

The cashier will ask for cash back and hand it to her friend who is the next person
in line. Please, be sure to check your receipts right away when using debit cards.
The store has this cashier under investigation now. We can only pray that she is caught
very soon.

I am adding to this. My husband and I were in WalMart North Salisbury and paying
with credit card when my husband wentto sign the credit card signer he just happened
to notice there was a $20 cash back added. He told the cashier that he did not ask nor
want cash back and she said this machine has been messing up and she canceled it.
We really didn't think anything of it until we read this email.

First, before posting things like this you should always check with Snopes first.

While Snopes says this is undetermined, their research tells me this is most likely another urban myth. It's been kicking around since 2004. It has three different versions collected by Snopes. And why is Walmart singled out? If this works why isn't it also being done at Target, or Auto-Zone, or Micky D's?

This scam ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO ME 5 years ago.

Luckily I caught it on the reciept when I got home and called my bank. They refunded the 60 dollars. The PD went to the walmart but it was not caught on video Charges could not be filed

I didn't single out Wal-Mart, I quoted the e-mail. I am not bashing any merchant specifically. Just trying to raise awareness about a possible scam. It obviously is a real scam if it happened to Dave. If nothing else I hope it just gets people to check their receipts before they leave every store. It may happen at those other places too, but when you go to Wal-mart and spend $200 you're a lot less likely to notice an extra 20 or 40 bux, as you would notice them adding a 20 burger to your happy meal order.

I did not mean to imply that YOU singled out Walmart. It is just that the article you posted only mentions Walmart and when I see only one store singled out it makes all the red flags go off in my brain. If you were offended I apologize.

I am a skeptic by nature, so I always question these things and look for red flags.

OK. So it happened to Dave.... Snopes did have an explaination of how this could happen as a user error.... Sorry Dave.. I don't mean to doubt you... Drat... OK let me head this one off at the pass.. Dave if I offended you in anyway I apologize....

Timothy don't worry you didnt offend me one bit. I was just simply pointing out that Snopes is not the end all be all source that some people seem to think it is.

Oh your screen name is why you seem to get into "trouble" with some of our members. 90% of members here are conservatives and can not stand the path Obama has in mind for this country. And the Lib in your screenname makes them think you are an Obama supporter.
