How Much to Charge

Ok so I am working on my buddy's 96 Ford Bronco.

Replacing the rear axle. He supplied all the parts. I had to go get it about an hour away from my house. I towed it to my place. I removed the rear axle and got the new axle up in the truck. Everything should be done tomorrow.

He has a broken foot. He has been giving a helping hand as a gofer. Getting me tools and what not while working on the truck.

I do not feel I should charge him. He is a good friend. He did cover my fuel costs. He bought me drinks, bought me breakfast, and paid a buddy I owed 60 bucks to for some parts for my truck. In my eyes we are square. Plus I may get his old axle to rebuild and use under my jeep. I know it is not a 9 inch. But it is an 8.8. There are a lot of things out on the market for the 8.8.

I think we are square as everything goes. But he wants to pay me some money.

So what do you all think I should tell him.

have him buy you a case of beer and call it good, if hes a "real" friend who would do the same for you then its all good, thats how i roll with my buddies

Same with me but he insists on paying me. I told him I will square it up later on. Basically hoping he forgets about it.

He did buy me dinner at Lone Star Steak House too.

i had the same situation with my buddy. i busted my butt all day running electrical to his garage and doing a service change too. i couldnt charge him much and he said how much. i said pay me what you think its worth. bad mistake. now this job would have cost someone about $1200 or more in labor. well he ended up giving me $80
i thought it was ok cause he is my best friend and they dont have much money. well needless to say, the week after i found out he went a bought a brand new john deer tractor and paid cash cash. that pissed me off.
sorry for the long story bigcountry. if he's a good friend and you think all is cool, just take stumps advice and have him get you a case of beer or take you and your wife out for some steaks.
