'80 CJ7 Amc 304 alternator problem.

Ive had my charging system only putting out 10-11 volts for a year now everynow and then jumping to 13.5 where I want it. I have spent hours tracing wire after wire thinking that was it after I had a new alternator put on. Last week a belt started to squeal, so to day I set to see which one and noticed my alternator belt was VERY loose. I could turn the pully with no effort at all by hand. Tightened it and BOOM no squeal and 14 volts. Now I need to kick the dumbasses butt who put that on last.....

I've got a '72 CJ5 with a 304. There's always a list of things to do. Does yours have power steering? It's a popular and fairly easy MOD to take it from a wagoneer.

Does yours smoke? If so, is it on one particular bank of cylinders?

Yes to power steering. It smokes a little when first fired on the passenger side but quits just as fast
