So I had some time on my hands recently, and while doing absolutely nothing, it occurred to me how badly my factory lights sucked on my ATV, so my first thought was just pop some HID's in the factory housings, easy enough....but in thinking a bit more, I thought it would be cool to have BIG light on there, once upon a time on a different rig I stuck a generic off road light on it with a 100WT H3 and it worked great, only problem was, it was a bit too much current draw for the Honda, 2 batteries later I returned to stock
So to make a long story even longer, I bought a couple of generic off road lights to try, the issues were first would the HID's adapt in a manner that would be functional, and "ATV proof" I was pretty sure I could get them to fit the housings, I did need to extend the leads on the gas tubes to the ballasts and find a suitable spot for the them that would be safely out of the way. I thought about welding some tabs on the front rack, but decided that it may look like crap, so I cut a piece of diamond plate and riveted it to the front rack, this gave me room to put the lights just about anywhere, plus plenty of room underneath for the ballasts. I also used rivets to mount the ballast brackets underneath the diamond plate.
The verdict? I love it, it added a TON of light to the ATV, those things are SICK. The battery draw on BOTH HIDs combined is less than only one H3 halogen, I don't expect electrical issues here at all. ...and I think it looks kinda cool too....
thought I would share.....
