Straight Pipe inspection

Will a diesel with a straight pipe pass inspection in NC? I just found a 7.3 PSD, OBS, with a 5speed and want to know if it will pass inspection before I buy it. It's a 4" exhaust, and if it matters the downpipe has been modded.

not unless your inspector doesnt mind. i tried to go to "my guy" and he said the inspections department are getting strict and if it came with muffler and cat it needs to have it to pass. i have a straight pipe too and am looking at finding a new "guy" or putting in a new exhaust that is bigger but comes with muffler. new systems install are around $500 and are much bigger than stock.

I was wondering about this too, I will be getting a 6.0 in a couple years and want to straight pipe it. Hmmm, will have to find a good shop that will be nice to me when it comes time to inspections. I live in Elizabeth City, so we will see.
