IDI Questions

First off, how much different is the IDI front cover than a PSD as far as important stuff like water pump and water passages? I don't care about the cam position sensor or the HPOP, I won't need them hopefully. Is there a LPOP on the front of crank like a PSD? I have never had them side by side and its been a while since I done any wrenchin on an IDI.

How much fuel in comparision to HEUI will a standyne rotary put out? Will it be enough for 500 horsepower with a turbo to burn it.

Anyone familiar with the 9L? Is the injector pump similar to a 7.3?

Thanks for any help.

Oh god...uh. No. you wont be able to put one bolt in the front cover. A DV550/9Liter uses an inline, absolutely GiHugeic inline pump...looking at roughly16 inches from the front. You would have to make a custom intake for an IDI. You might get it to flow but i dont think your going to find any type of govenor springs to make it turn any rpm...well much past 2500 anyways. I think that the Stanadyne rotary only ... idk. i cant remember. What are you trying to get put together?

Mechanical direct injection 7.3 forged powerstroke with some big lungs. Looking to stay at or near 500HP for now. With some more money in the low end maybe push it up more towards 750.

I am planning on using the ps front cover and gut the hpop and use it simply as an idler gear for another cam gear on top to drive pump. Then machine plugs threaded for old Cummins or whatever injector will fit the best. Then split valve covers with fuel lines bulkheaded into lower half.

I want to try to do this kinda junk ward style. I do not have enough money for big oil and big injectors that are limited anyway. I just try to be different, but really just on a budget.

I feel like I will have more ability to adjust the power level mechanically and have a higher possible power level than with the HEUI. I won't need any sensors or expensive computers. Just a throttle linkage.

Even thought about using the oil galleys for additional coolant flow? Maybe this is not necessary though?

Thanks for the help, I was hoping to possibly retro fit an idi front cover and injector drive setup, but it sounds like they differ too much.
