How much oil does your high milage 7.3 use?

Put the first 1K or so miles on my newly purchased 1990 F250 w 7.3 non turbo (all stock I think?) appears to have 310k on the clock. I changed oil about 700 miles ago & had to add a quart? That seem excessive? It has good oil pressure used 15w40 shell non syn diesel oil. It does blow out some smoke when it starts & will smoke if Ya hammer it when pulling my 18ft enclosed trailer. Should I be concerned? I'm getting ready to get it painted, maybe I should be spending $$$ on the motor?

I'm not sure how much it uses. But, it leaks about 2 gallons between changes. I will be fixing the leaks soon.

I'm going to run it & add as needed for a while. Seems I can make it use more pending how I drive it when I have a load on it...Thanks!

Hey how much will it cost me to rebuild it?

I have 235K on my 7.3 and it uses about a quart every 2-3000 miles, BUT that is because I have the pesky oil ring leak under my turbo pedistal and I'm too lazy to take the whole gamit apart for an O-ring! She doesn't puff white smoke at all.

Do you have a possible leak somewhere that is getting burned off so you don't see it on the ground? Like lower vave cover or something like that? Do you smell burning oil when your driving?

I have not noticed any smell, nor does it leave anything under it when its parked. It does smoke some when Ya start it & also at WOT with a load on it.

The factory oil pressure guage shows good pressure, motor seems fairly quiet to me but this is my first diesel? I just found out the actual milage is 310K, but dynno know if the motor has been apart or not yet...?
