Go turbo or No turbo?

Before I swap this 1990 7.3 diesel in my truck, I'd like to know what those who know, or think they know..think!

Will this motor give me the a** plant in the seat that I am looking for when I kick it down with some minor mods and no turbo? Or should I start whistling a happy turbo tune?

The truck is a lifted 4X4 that hardly gets drove over 80 kph/50mph, though has the bad habbit of going off road

The turbo will really wake the old IDI up. With my mods, I was able to outrun my buddy's stock PSD. He modded it and ....... oh well I can still follow him right?

i had a 7.3 IDI years ago, ended selling it to a former roommate when i got my 96 7.3 PSD. he and i raced one day, he beat me off the line, once my turbo spooled up, i left him in the dust.

i wish i hadn't gotten rid of it.

i wouldn't worry too much about getting a turbo for it. i think they are as a NA engine.

An IDI turbo will not plant you back in your seat, at least the ones I have won't. They just don't feel like a newer truck where the turbo spools up and the truck takes off. But a turbo will definitely be faster than a non-turbo, my Dad's '89 is sloooooow!

I don’t agree a idi with a banks turbo makes as much hp as some of the newer ps but if you put a turbo on and do some other mods you can go over the 300hp mark or even the 400hp but even then your not going to go 0-60 in 3.5
