Can someone explain how dual tank

Dual fuel tank system works. I bought a 1988 f-450. It's not getting fuel and the guy I bought from told me he ran it out of fuel now it isn't getting fuel from the tanks. Teh truck is 450 miles away from where i live. I need to know how it works and if there is a way to bypass it so i can get it home. Does it work off an electric fuel pump?? thank you

if it is diesel, it will need to be primed. Most older diesels have a mechanical pump on engine.

dual tanks have a selector valve which swithces between tanks.
