Need help with my first F250 Crew Cab
I just purchased a 2002 F250 XLT Crew Cab 4x4 5.4L Gas engine with 157K miles. The truck is extremely clean and well maintained. I would like to do some preventative maintenance so I can be completely sure of what has and hasn’t been done. I want to change the oil to synthetic (Mobile 1), change the transmission fluid, change the spark plugs, fuel filter, etc. I would really appreciate any input on brand of fluids and plugs for replacement based on experience. Also what else should I do to ensure a nice long life for my truck. Thanks!

Any peticular reason why you wouldn't use Mobile 1? I live in the mountains so I don't have access to a variety of oils.

I put Mobile1 in my wifes Escape and the oil went black ,, I mean jet black and it had a weird odor with one tank of fuel. So I changed it right then and used motorcraft. Maybe that's how Mobile1 works I dunno but I didn't like it
But in saying that When you drain oil from your rig and its dark/black that is a good sign. That means its cleaning the dirt out of your engine and its doing its job. If oil comes out clean that isn't good and thats when you might want to try a different oil that works better and helps clean the engine some. But the Mobile1 was really black and stinky almost burnt looking. Let me revise my statement..I wouldn't use Std Moble 1 but Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 would be ok.

I think he would be fine with Mobile 1. That what I have used in my wife's car since day 1. I also used it in my gasser trucks with no issues. |

Mobil 1 is a great oil for you gas engine. I use it in all my gassers, and most of my customers that use syn are using it. It will turn very black the first oil change or 2 due to it cleaning the engine from the deposits left from the old oil. If that concerns you, you could always flush the engine before you change over to Mobil.
