zf 5 speed question

I'm currently working on a 85 (or parts of many) f-250 and I'm wanting to know, can you get a gasser zf 5 speed to work with a 7.3idi I can find plenty of the gasser(mostly 351 type engines) 5 speeds for a good price but not a one that was mated to a 7.3 If, not, do they make a an adapter plate or such. The set up i have now is a 7.3 with a c-6 behind it and it already has an adapter plate between the engine and transmission. was this stock or what?

There were 2 ZF-5 trannies, a small block and big block version. If you already have an adapter for the c6, a small zf should bolt up. But they are a little harder to come across. The big block version should bolt up without the adapter. So either way, you shouldn't have a problem finding one. I love those trannies, I put one in my Bronco trail rig and have pounded on it for years with no problems
