10.25" vs. 10.50"

Can a 10.5" with disc brakes (like my 2001) be installed on a 1986 F250 that came with a 10.25" with drum brakes?

My son has a '86 that needs to have the rear axle rebuilt and parts are close to what we can get a junk yard 10.5". He is also interested in having the disc brake upgrade.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

it can be but remember bolt pattern changes. he has 8 on 6.5 where you (and all 10.5s) have 8 on 170mm. either run two different wheels or swap a front axle as well
