I work nights right now since I switched jobs at a concrete production plant making slabs used in tunnels and I work from 4pm-2am and I have to agree. Working nights seem more laid back, no chaos driving since most of the traffic in diminished going to work and drive home is really just you and the road. It takes getting used to if your a day person but for more pay its worth it. This job is only temporary until I'm shipped off so I can manage. You'll get used to it over a few nights at work then it'll just be normal.

I worked nights in the office for a while. I was a security post and I just sat there surfing the internet and staring out the window for 12 hours. If you actually have a job and something to keep you occupied go for it. If you dont keep busy on nights by yourself you will go crazy but it was nice not dealing with the politics

I work 6pm-6am. I have been doing it for about 3 years and its starting to get old.

kiss your personal life goodbye, kiss your family time goodbye, and remember that as a night supervisor you are responsible to make every decision all night long and guess what the boss wants done and if its not what he wants youll get your azz chewed out for it.

guess you can tell how working nights is going for me.

The good part bout working nights is I hate my boss and I hate all of his cronies that kiss his azz, I hate the company politics and B.S. and I dont have to deal with any of that on the night job. I never see a single soul other than my co worker and customers.

I work 4 on 4 off 12 hour shifts 7-7, we swap days and nights every turn. Been doing it for 10 years and wouldn’t go to straight days for anything. In fact I’d work straight nights if they would let me. Biggest thing is if you can sleep well during the day and change your sleep schedule at will, my dad tried it and it almost killed him, he couldn’t sleep more than a couple hours a day. Me I sleep from 9-5, day or night, actually on nights I sleep from 8am to 5:30pm, when I’m on days It’s more like 10;30 pm to 5:30 am cause its harder to get to bed with the wife and kids around. I get more sleep and feel better on nights. Not sure how it would work doing it 5 nights and only getting 2 days off then going right back to nights, that might suck. 4 days off every week is great, all you 2 day a week folks can have it.

I've been on nights since about Jan. of this year. You get used to it.We work 4 - 10's. Mon.-Thurs. nights 8pm-6am.
Its not bad, more money.
Hard to get in touch with anybody in an emergency, since everybody is sleeping.
No traffic, That's a plus.
I NEVER watch tv, that's a plus too imo.
The only problem is, I find it's hard to keep in touch with the rest of the world on the days that i'm working...

good luck with your decision!

Up until Jan I worked nights, 3:30 pm to 3:30 am and loved it. More money, less politics, sleep till you wake up and do what you want when you are up. The down side was not seeing the wife much and I did miss sitting on the deck and talking with her in the summer. The upside was we had no boss at night and if we had a slow night it was time to do some personal custom fab work, can't do that on days. I asked to go back to nights but they said no so I guess I am stuck on days now. Due to fuel prices they are considering splitting us into 2 crews working 4 10's and I am hoping they do that. We use to do that and a 3 day weekend every weekend was cool but now who can afford to drive anywhere, still be nice to have a 3 day weekend tho.
