Any one here a cop?
im curring in college. working my way through an engineering degree. im good at the classes and enjoy it in general, but im not getting out of it something i want to spend my life doing. I have a few friends that are criminal justice majors. I have been thinking long and hard about switching majors and getting a criminal justice major and doing something a little more active with that. Sooo my question is/if there are and police men or women on here what they think about their job.

kinda late i know on the topic. i'm not, but it's funny. i graduated high school in 84 which seems like a long time ago, but for most it was only a generation ago. a lot of guys my age who have kids in college now had those kids when they were either in college or college age. i never went. a lot guys who i went to school with who became cops didn't need college. just the academy, and a lot of tests. most of them are making 100k a year now too. they want you to go to college for everything nowadays, and it sucks you can't do what you used to be able to do without college, and the fact that they want kids to go to college for jobs that pay $10 bucks an hour. i know guys who became cops in the last 10-15 years who had no college.
not putting you down or anything. it's good that you are putting the time in to do what it takes, and i am sure it's worth it. a lot of guys i know who are in law enforcement are satisfied with it. though in the area i live in new york/new jersey it's becoming all messed up because of the budget problems these states are facing. same with teachers. good luck with it though. sorry about my rant earlier. just funny how the one generation gap, and requirements for certain careers have changed so much! |

I'd go ahead and finish your engineering degree. That way if you decide to get out of law enforcement you have something to fall back on. A college degree isn't necessary, as previously mentioned, but it is good to have. For instance, the department I work for pays an extra 200.00 a month for a bachelors degree.
