NY state inspection
Hey, can anyone tell me what inspection stations up there are looking for on diesels? NY is my home but im currently stuck in North Carolina where there registrations fees are horrible. Looking to get it registered back home. Down here they just look at horn and lights. Thats it!! I heard they look at emissions equipment which aint cool cause im running 4 inches straight back. Any help would be appreciated!

I just bought my truck in Texas, and Registered it in NY too becuase I am a NY resident too, just down here for training. So here is the deal, may not help you for for the long run, but at least for now. If you register your truck in NY, it doesnt need to be inspected until you drive back into NYS, then you have 10days from that date to get it inspected.
Your truck being a 2002 only certain VIN# had a Cat on them. Did you have a Cat before? Other than that, there is nothing emmisions related on the truck. So I would assume all the way up till 03 6.0s they are just doing safety inspections on them. Oh and here is another NY foot up your azz. NY doesnt allow tax credit from your state, I just checked the tax form, was the same for me here in TX. So even if you payed NC sales tax for it, you are still going to have to pay NYS tax on fair market value of the truck at Registration time. Hope that helps. |

Dont think mine had a cat. I was to excited when i hacked it up!! When did this tax thing start. Military should be excempt. When i was stationed elsewhere i had bought a truck and had it registered in NY. All i had to do was some bank paperwork and proof of AD military. NC wants over 200 dollars a year for weighted tags.

Yea. I just moved back to NY from NC..paid my tax on $40k and then paid another $1291.91 registering it in NY. Not a nice thing to come home to when you just get out of the military.

Right now Upstate NY is only doing safety inspection on diesels - lights, horn, wipers, brakes. Not sure about NYC and other larger metro areas.
Anything 96 and newer gasser gets the emission inspection. |
