I have an 05 crew cab 2WD with the tow package. I hate doing cheap stuff that ends up breaking or messing up. So with that in mind, what is the cheapest way I can do a lift/level on my truck W/O compromising the ride quality or suspension itself???
leveling kit would suit you and not expensive at all. get with ProductCart shopping cart software - Truck Toyz Store great company to deal with and will answer all of your questions. Dan is on here a lot to answer questions or you can call Marty the owner and speak with him or any of the sales representatives very top notch bunch of guys
ou could always go really expensive but have a great setup and do a full coilover in the front... they make them small enough for stock height/ leveled trucks
i have seen it done a few times... king even makes a setup to bolt into stock trucks to level, bilstein has one for half ton trucks... you just need a custom made coil-over and mounting plate which is easy... but not cheap
you just have to get the spring rate right, and then measure compressed and fully extended... then for the best ride a 30/70 valving is what I suggest...
granted my truck is lifted, but with the Eibach springs and the Fox Coilovers in front with that valving, it rides really nice (other truck, not one pictured)
At stock to leveled height (and even taller)....you'll have more travel out of a separate coil and shock vs. a coilover. Unless you cut the wheel well liner to allow the coilover mount to go up higher.
Spring rate has nothing to do with travel.....other than how fast you will go through the travel that you have available to you.
Or really go all out and rearrange some stuff to have the coilover bolt up right under the hood to get the most travel possible.
Of course none of this is "the cheapest way" which is what the original poster is looking for......
I saw the Daystar coil spacer kit for $130. I'm thinking heavy about going that way. The only thing it says I need is longer shocks for the front..... so if I need longer shocks, do I need different springs too?
I think this will be the best way. The whole purpose of the level is to get the truck off the ground a little and put some 35s on it. I do a little surveying here and there and don't like being so close to the ground when going over some bumps and limbs and other crap on the ground. Plus it will look pretty good too. Which is why I'm not looking to spend a small fortune on a crazy lift package on a 2WD.
you should get new shocks anyway... a set of bilstein 5100's wont cost a lot and will make the ride great.... as for tire size it depends on what tire you want... an aggressive tire with big side lugs, a 33" will be what you will want to not rub but an a/t you can stretch to a 34" (overall diameter, only available in metric sizes) and be fine
Thanks guys, I appreciate all the help. Going to start getting this project under way. I'll get my truck posted for my signature after I get everything straitened out.
Is it done yet? do you have pics? HURRY UP!!!! LOL
