Injector warranty denied for lack of receipts

My 2006 6.0 started acting up while driving to vacation in Moab UT. I was about 400 miles from home. The truck ran very rough and lost a lot of power. I got to our campsite and scanned the truck. It gave a trouble code of P0275 (cylinder 5 imbalance). I assumed fuel injector. I checked with the small dealership in Moab but they were backed up for 3 weeks in diesel repairs.

I was able to find a dealership in Grand Junction, CO to take the truck to on my way home. I limped the truck to Grand Junction and arrived at the dealership. They diagnosed the truck and found a bad injector in cylinder 5 and a bad fuel pump. They refused to warranty the repairs only because I didn't have my fuel filter receipts with me during the trip!! The current filter only had about 1000 miles on it!

Luckily I had an extended aftermarket warranty and they agreed to cover a portion of the cost which they normally would not do because the repair should actually be the responsibility of Ford.

Bottom line: The dealership charged me $1700 to replace an injector and fuel pump and refused to cover under warranty because I didn't have a couple fuel filter receipts with me while traveling!!!

Anyone have any ideas how I can hold them accountable and get my money back?

Still have the receipts? I don't know yet. I just got home from vacation and haven't looked yet. I bought the truck with 37000 miles and have only replaced the fuel filters twice since then but that is way more than the recommended 15000 interval.

I think I was screwed by the dealership. I hope to find a couple filter receipts and am considering taking them to small claims court.

Holy crap, thats sounds like bs. Is it your warranty that you have to carry all your maintenance receipts with you?

Not that I am aware of. I expected it to be covered under the standard 100000 mile diesel warranty but the dealership said Ford requires receipts.

The dealership is Western Slope Auto Group in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Dealerships are obviously under pressure from Ford to decline as may claims as possible. I imagine if you stand up for yourself they might crumble like a cookie.
