My dad has a 96 F250 7.3 and lately it has been having some problems. We have tried cleaning/replaced all the fuel filter and screens in the fuel bowl and can't figure out the problem. When the truck is cold it will run for around 30 mins or so and then dies you can restart it and it will run for aroun 10 mins and if it will start a 3rd time it usually dies within a min and won't start back until it cools down again. Can anybody help with this probelm maybe a fuel pump going bad? We don't want to have to take it to the dealership but there aren't many diesel shops in this area and he has been out of a truck for while now.

Ok I was wondering if it will show any codes if the light isn't on because it hasn't ever thrown an engine code light I will try that and see if it shows any. We cleaned two screens on the fuel regulator first. I will check fuel pressure and see will any scanner tool read fuel pressure or do I just use a mechanical fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve?

Well I believe I fixed it. It did show a couple codes when I scanned it and the first code was a code telling me my check engine light bulb was out and the other was cam shaft position sensor so I replaced it and it has ran so far but I haven't drove it just left it idling I didn't want it to leave me stranded. But so far so good.

My pickup did something similar to that. The problem was that the o rings around the injectors were letting in oil and it was burning oil and making it run very bad. It would start and the second i hit the go pedal it would die and take FOREVER to start.
