Everytime you open any kind of car/truck magazines, you always see sweet rides decked out with a crazy paint job, a bunch of chrome under the hood, & a speaker/sub system that'll launch your eardrums into orbit. Whether it's Low Riders, Mustangs, Imports, etc., it almost gets to be the same thing over & over. Now, I know this has been a spitting contest since time begun, but what purpose does it serve for a 4x4 diesel pickup? Before anyone jumps down my throat about applications: I'm already aware. I can understand if it's a 4x2 dually, slammed to the ground & is for street purposes only, I also understand if it's a 4x2 or 4x4 SRW/DRW "rolling billboard" for a performance company who wants to build something that really catches the public's eye for product endorsement, but what about all these diesel pickups in diesel mags that are used as everyday drivers? Some of these people go so far overboard, the truck practically loses most of it's functionality. If you're gonna spend all this money raising your rig to the sky with remote reservoir shocks, 4-links, & Toyo Open Country M/Ts, why are you going to slap a $1500+ paintjob on it, because you know damn well you ain't going off-road with it? Do these people just like hearing their tires whine on the highway & make it a little more difficult to park your truck @ the supermarket & constantly worry about some azzhat rolling a carriage into your bed??? Or when it comes to these same people that live in colder climates & have to deal with mud & slush in the winter time? You have all those pretty speakers installed in all 4 doors & a decked-out interior, but are you going to really jump into your rig with muddy/slushy boots? Don't get me wrong, I love sky-high rigs with rims & big mudders, a decent audio system, & a few other goodies, but why do a lot of people get off on diesel rigs that can't do anything for them but look pretty? It's basically a chit load of money spent on a truck you can only look @. Am I missing something? I love trucks with accesories & chrome, but there's just some trucks out there, even loaded with exhaust, intake, fuel delivery, & chip that have all this power that'll never see a trail, dragstrip, or even a race against an import on the highway. Gimme a break. It just seems that perfectly good diesel rigs that'll pull a trailer, haul some dirt, take you through a creek, or send you down the 1/4 in 12sec or better are gonna end up in a rap video with spinners............or worse...............end up on some stupid show like Hannah Montana.:doh::doh::doh:................or THE WORST!!!!!: End up on the Fast & Furious..................with Clay Aiken behind the wheel!:bolt::Shocked:
Who cares man, there truck, there money, let them do what they want. If they want to build a daily driver/show truck. Then let them, heck at least they are spending money helping out this crappy economy.
Not exactly the response I was looking for, but you have a very good & valid point, bigcountrysg. They're definitely helping out the economy by pumping money into their trucks:nod:. & like you said, who cares? I guess what I'm getting @ is why take a perfectly functional truck that can do a billion & one things for you & cut it down to basically 1? I could care less too about what they do to their trucks, but my arguement is "why?".
Different? Have you seen the trucks Diesel World's been featuring? The paint jobs are different, but relatively cost the same, the suspension systems they have are pretty much the same aside of namebrands, & most of them are either packing an Edge, SCT, or BullyDog system. In all due respect, bud, what's different?(just asking---not arguing:thumb
These threads show up all the time. I dont like to run mine in the woods. I know what a truck costs. I just made it confortable for ME and only ME. I will get ideas and ask guys and gals on the forum for sugestions, but it is my money and I can do with it as I please. Everyone is different and has different uses of their trucks. Down south, I ride by dealerships every morning and see the aftermath of the weekend bog or trail ride, im just glad its not mine sitting there torn apart......
Yes. These threads show up all the time, henst the title "Age-Old Complaint". Read the thread more carefully. I don't think ALL diesel trucks need to be torn up on the trail, I'm saying why they spend the money for a lift & mudders when they'll spend most of their time playing "putt-putt" in the city. I'm asking the reasons why, you sound like you're just looking for an arguement just for the sake of arguing saying "It's my money & I can do what I please". Do you have snow in down south? Probably not, so you'd be exempt from the whole thread. But I see features in mags where these people have jacked & mudded suspension & tires & the paint & live in places like Washington State, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, & Wisconsin where snow's a way of life & wouldn't set foot into their cabs without dropping plastic on everything to preserve it. There was even one I read where a guy had a beater truck to tow his sky-high super diesel around instead of growing a set & using it for what it was built. I'm not looking to argue with you. No offense, but your rig doesn't meet the criteria I'm talking about when it comes to trucks that are built & spend most of their lives in garages getting a cloth diaper dragged across it.

All these people are in it for the wow factor. They like being stared at when they drive by a group of people. I know because I used to run around with that crowd and I liked the feeling too. These people are obsessed with people telling them they love there truck.
If you look at my truck when it is cleaned up from a distance. It looks good, but when you walk up to it. You see all the brush marks, scrapes and scratches from the many hunting trips it has been on. The trips in the fields for work on the farm. Sure it has been buried in mud a few times. It ain't no show truck but my truck has been to hell and back many times. In fact it was there this last weekend on Saturday. If you don't believe me look it up Hell Michigan. It is located in Pickney state rec area.
Do I have an aftermarket stero yes I do I even have a 1200 watt amp and sub in my truck. But I don't crank it up and blow out the person next to me on the road. It is loud enough for me to enjoy it.
I did some things to the exterior, in fact I am working on building my own custom front and rear bumpers.
I don't have a gripe about why not. Like I said "who cares?". But what it boils down to is taking a ballpark $35,000+ rig, adding accesories you can really have some serious fun with, & then...............get ready...................stare @ it! :hehe:
