just take the wire from your radio to ground. when i had one i put a switch on it in case i got pulled over i could shut it off.

I know this may be a stupid question that may/may not insult your intelligence, but, did you look down by the parking brake for a switch with wires? I don't know but that is where I would start. No offense!!

get a simple relay from autozone hook 85 to your remote turn on wire. 30 to parking brakewire and 87 and 86 to ground. works great

That is the correct method for the AVH-4000dvd. Cheap $4 relay from Autozone and some female connectors, and you can watch DVD's anytime you want.

Depending on what model he has, he might not have to buy anything. Swap a couple wires in there position in the wiring harness of the headunit, and all is well. Watch DVD's anytime you want.

Those are the inputs and outputs on the relay. They are marked on the relay right next to each pin. This is a picture of a Bosch relay that also has an 87a terminal. Autozone relays are only 4 prong relays. But you should get the picture. Autozone relay will not have the center 87a prong.

Connect the amp remote wire on the head unit harness to 80. Parking brake wire from head unit to prong 30. Ground prongs 86 & 87. All connections to the relay are from the wiring harness of the avh-4000dvd.
