Hey guys first post.
I have a 2004 F-250SD, Auto Trans that has been giving me trouble.
First a few months ago I was sitting at a light and it died on me. It took a few cranks and then started and ran fine.
A few weeks later when I started it in the morning it started fine but, when I pushed on the accelerator nothing happened. I turned the engine off, waited a minute and it restarted and ran fine.
Now every now and then it runs rough and sometimes dies and sometimes clears up.
This morning it ran fine and then I parked it for about an hour and when I tried to start it, it would run rough and then die. I let it sit for a few hours and then it started right up no problem.
The history on this truck is it's totally stock the only problem it had was the EGR was replaced once and then the dealer just cleaned it the next time.
The tech told me if I took the truck out on the freeway and got on it every now and then it the EGR wouldn't load up.
Also the cold air hose blew off and I replaced it.
Other than that it runs strong.
What is the most likely culprit?
Sorry this is so long and thanks for any help you can give me.

Find a cheap superchips tuner...thats what i use. If you know anyone who has one, you can use it.
I have an SCT and it won't read any codes ...although they advertise that it will.

Not sure about the OBD
I think they have a pretty good scanner it finds my codes when I have had them.
Maybe someone else can jump in here.....

That doesn't look bad.

I've got the Equus 3100 that I paid about 120 bucks for. Reads all 1996 and up. Comes with what you need as well as access to their website for factory codes.

You can see their products here.

well it happened again. Drove a few miles and parked for about 30 min. When I tried to start it it sounded like it was running on 4 cylinders and then died. I then turned the key on and waited until the vacuum pump and the fuel pump ( I think ) stopped and then pushed on the accelerator about an inch or so and it started right up.
Now I did notice that the battery light and the check gauge lights were on before it started and then they both turned off when it started. I never noticed them before. Also the Emmissions light does the same thing on the left side of the instrument panel and it has been doing that for at least a year or so. Does anyone elses do the same thing? Thanks.

Before you spend lots of money, do a close inspection of the wiring harness. Check the underside of the harness on the top side of the engine. (drivers side intake) Be looking for cuts and rubs in the harness that could short to ground. Look closely anywhere the harness turns a corner and comes in contact with any metal surface Also, the icp sensor is at the back and top of the engine. Just behind the turbo. It's not easy to get to but if you can, lightly pull on the wiring going to it. It sounds like you may have a loose or grounding wire.

Can't say how 'common' it is. But I took my turn in the barrel with the same problem last year. Did some research and found the same advice. I found that the underside of the harness chaffs in the areas I mentioned. Took me about an hour of checking and adjusting of the harness. Also, I did find where the harness sheath had been rubbed through and wire was exposed. Never another problem. Knock-knock.. lol

yah I know what you mean. I used to have a 95 suburban with the 6.5 turbo POS with the POS stanadyne pump with the POS PMD (Pump Mounted Driver). That thing was always leaving me stranded. Had to carry extra PMDs to replace when one died. My Uncles been using a 6.0 hauling hay rakes and travel trailers for a few years without trouble and I decided to give one a try. Hope I don't end up on the same nightmare train I did with the 6.5s.
