I got a TW chip from raul not too long ago. Everything was real good with it, but lately it has been acting up. I noticed it getting on the highway, it would shift into OD and the truck would fall flat on its face, then pick back up after a few seconds. But lately the shifting has been getting worse, the power is no longer there, you are lucky to get the truck out of its own way on the street tune...
Anyone got any ideas? Am I one of the .0001% of people that actually have a problem with the chip?
i will have to do that tomorrow seeing as how i dont have any tools in my current location. I appreciate the replies, I want this chip to work properly.
Stock setting on my chip seems almost de-tuned. its tonys and yes- when i romp it it locks the converter hard in 4th. basically you need more air fuel and oil from the sounds of it. other chips will let your converter spin like hell until it decides to shift keeping your engine from lugging like your saying.
but if there are any chip experts out there, if the chip moves slightly, or loses contact on 1 of the many teeth on the chip, would it still work but cause it to act wierd??? I think I am just used to the power now and need some oil and sticks and a new air blower.
my trans is a SUPER HEAVY PACKAGE. billet tripple disk, 5 disk clutch packs, (accept for 3rd) new carriers, transgo stage 3, hi flo pump. new electronics. im pretty sure he is talking about converter lock. it will lug a motor with too long of gears. mine did bad before i re geared to 456s. used to have 373s.
It can pull like hell if necessary, street seems to work the best with the tranny but the lack of power drives me crazy. I dont remember if i mentioned it or not, but if I change the tune, it kills the truck unless the TC is locked up and Im decelerating.
It sounds like the tranny. Mine only lasted 5 weeks after I put the chip in from Tony. I have always been told not to switch positions under acceleration. They say that the engine will shut off if you do.
I dont seem to have any of these problems. The race tune the way its programed shifts the truck at higher RPMs. I cant really think what it would be sorry.
Well if it dont lock in.. that means you have a problem with your TC most likely, but before you do that take ur chip out it takes about 10mins and check all the connections very good.
Well, I pulled the chip tonight and pretty much any troubles I was having earlier went away. The tranny shifts firm and it doesnt really hunt around for the right gear, I do have a bts vb, but I forgot how GUTLESS these motors are in stock form. Ill be sending my chip back to tony for some reburns, I hope he has time to do this as I am having a hard time with the lack of power.
Did you add the valve body after you installed the chip or before. The reason being is that TW needs to know what you have in your transmission to give you the right tunes to run your hardware. If you had a stock transmission, and TW tunes for a stock transmission then added the VB, bad things might happen. I can't say for sure if it is the sort of problem you are having right now, but I know that they want to know when they burn it that they have the right tune in for your transmission mods.
Looks great... But in 6 years of driving with a chip installed I have never had an issue with mine coming out... I cut the whole back out of the case, and can swap chips in all of 10 seconds...:thumb:
That is pretty cool, I think Ill do what CSISPD did and cut the whole back out so I can pull the thing out quickly if necessary.
