My dad is going to get the new truck Friday morning in Arlington TX. All I know is 7.3 stuff, and hardly any 6.0 stuff. What he is wanting to know is what and or who has the best custom tunes for fuel economy, and if a tuner goes on can the stock exhaust stay on?

you want to go with the sct and either innovative or cales tunes both are great ... i think if you are just running an economy tune you might be alright with the stock exhaust as long as you have some way to monitor your egts.

Okay cool thanks. What kind of milage do you get?

Stock exhaust will be fine with gauges to monitor your temps. Go with innovative for tuning. Cale is good too:thumb: I get 16-7 mixed 21 straight highway

Where can I find these tuners?

raul sells the tuner on his website...you can get it custom tuned through him with innovative tunes, you can buy it somewhere else, call innovative or cale at bts and have them send you tunes and load them onto the tuner

and as for the exhaust...there isnt one sensor on the exhaust on a 6.0...no codes get thrown with a straight pipe exhaust

Would I SES lgith come on if a TB straight exhaust was put on it?

Tell him to get a set of gauges first, then get an Xcal with Eric's Xtreme street file for his daily driver. I wouldn't tow with it, use a tow file for that, but if he drives it sensible he will never see high temps. Mileage is generally best with the very hottest files if you can keep your foot out of it.

One other thing to live by with a 6.0. CLEAN fuel and CLEAN air are a must for longevity. Even more important than on a 7.3 IMO. Change your fuel filters at least every 15k if not a little sooner. Use only motorcraft filters. The stock airbox has the best filtration period and flows ample air. Only replace the stocker with the blue donaldson OEM filters. If you put a CAI on it, clean the filter every oil change or every other at the least.

Thanks for the good info. Where can I find some info on these custom files?

you wont get any lights or codes by putting on a turbo back exhaust ... and you can talk to raul at stealth automotive, he is a sponsor here on the site, he can help you out with anything, exhaust tuners, all of it :thumb:

ya you can...but the livewire is a pain...the only way to mount it is with a suction cup to the windshield..theres no mounting options for it...id just do some guages and the x3...you can get the tuner and throw it in the center console and still have your guages and no gay black box that looks like hell

ya forgot about that...my buddy has the quadzilla commander and that thing has to be the easiest thing ive ever wired into a truck...connect to 2 wires, tap the egt, do the tranny temp and your done

Don't get a livewire. Overpriced crap IMO. I also had a quad commander for a stand alone gauge for 2 years and had troubles with it off and on. Some like them, I don't. Stick with a set of analog gauges. They are the most accurate and dependable bar none. My advise would be to find an Xcal2 with unlocks left for $200 or less shipped on the used market. Then go pay Eric or Cale for the tunes. Cale is cheaper but I still haven't tried his. A lot of guys are starting to swear by him and from a few of the people I've talked to first hand (that I absolutely trust their opinions) I wouldn't hesitate to run them. I do know that I absolutely LOVE Eric's tuning. He's spot on with power and shifting. Good luck with whatever ya'll decide.

thanks a lot for the info guys!!

Thanks Goose, I PMd him on it. How can I find the vehicle code on the truck?

BTW, these tuners seem to be harder to understand than the ones for my 7.3.

So you have to buy the tuner first, find the VC, then buy the custom ones?
