first post here, but have done reseach here for about a year.took freinds 32 ft twin big block boat out today and on the way home today could smell anti freeze, opened the hood saw anti freeze by the m/c noticed it looked like the cap for coolant was were it was coming from, took it loose had a lot of pressure on it. is this a sign of head gasket failure or i had also read here that it could be a egr promblem.what about a cap. this is a 03 6.0 excursion with about 130k on it, also it has no excesive smoke out the exhaust.thanks for any help here.

Sounds like puking 101. Must be spring-break:woot:

Without the temperature (outside and EGT), speed, weight, wind, ECM tuning, and boost info it is tough to troubleshoot. As you said you have been lurking, might be time for an EGR cooler test or just watch what happens over the next few weeks with other driving.

we ran about 70 on the highway , i think isaw about 22 lbs boost weight is between 8500 to 10500 plus the truck, dont no what turning it has but it was on the 2nd setting for towing and around 70 degrees not much wind.dont think it has the egt hooked up but the engine temp was 212 degrees. the spring break thing was friday night and he was still recovering.

looks like either your EGR cooler may be going or your a head gasket issue. When i smelled coolant it was my egr and oil coolers, i started getting the tea kettle whistle when i blew my headgaskets.

its hard to actually point the problem. you were pulling a big load with a stock truck, it could have just been puking because of the cooler.

for example my truck is studded and i have a full EGR delete and on the dyno or at the track it will puke sometimes. if i drive the truck for a few hours and stop i may have a little coolant around the cap as well. could be as simple as a $9.00 cap replacement
