I'm looking at buying a smoked tranny from a member on the org here, waiting on some phone calls and e-mails from a few people first.
Anyway, how much power should I be making before I really need a fully built tranny? Or can I just use a high performance TQ? What are my options and what would you recommend?
Tyler i'd talk to your shops around you and see what they say. I've heard of a few shops that will build them and they will hold what ever you throw at them and if they dont they will make it right. Just gotta ask the right questions.
If you were to put some stage 1's and a chip on your truck, you would be fine with a valve body or shift kit, and a heavy duty torque converter. If you tow alot of weight, often, then a built tranny would be a good idea.
Call Zack a gear star performance transmissions in Akron that where mine is man ad i getting a sponsorship from him. Great people and on ehll of a shop 1 800 633 2353
Well I see what point your at kinda like the one im at. I thought about a good vb and a good tc, but the more I think about it just well save up and get the real thing.
Nope not at all. Just dunno how long it will hold up to a custom tuner. If I really only do my hard runs in the 1/4 mile I would think stock tranny would last a while. I'm pretty easy ont he streets to conserve fuel.
But I can't be down while I have a tranny built, so I'm looking at buying a broken one to have re-done.
If you buy a donor core, have it rebuilt with a soft parts kit, shift kit, torque converter, and dont forget to get a new FORD!!! solenoid pack. you will be good with that
Tyler if you are gonna be racing it get the BTS or if you cant afford a BTS get a complete performance rebuild. A VB and converter on a stock trans is just a band aid. You will be doing it all over again
Who would do a good performance rebuilt?
Woodruff Deisel is about 30 mins away from me, maybe I'll call them up and see if I can work out a sponsorship deal?
Can't you just buy a BTS unit and then once you get it remove your current tranny, install the BTS unit, then send your old tranny back to BTS and get refunded the core charge?
