Standard Engine Temps in Big Towing????

My 06 King Ranch Dually CC, running on Platinum Edge Juice level 1, doing big Outback towing, is running engine temps as much as 210 to 215 and I have seen 220.... :yikes:

Now it only has about 7500 kms on it, and is hardly what you would call broken in... But running empty it is running 202 to maybe 206 F.... On a hot summer day (summer now here in Oz, 90-95 F) Come on down I will buy you a beer or threee:beer:

Seems to me it is running a little hotter than it used to. But I have added about a ton of gear, tanks, fridge, 16,500# winch, big 6mm plate steel reinforced Bull Bar, third battery, two solar panels, tools and toys... Ya know the drill, ton of stuff for the remote parts on Safari...

Anyway, seems to be running about maybe 5-8 degrees hotter?????? I added two IPF Running lights on the monster bull bar, it could be cutting down my airflow?????? .....

What are you all getting doing big work on engine temps??? Thank you in advance....:D lone Ranger in Oz

Ranger, have you open up the exhaust on that truck, I can not remember. I have not had my 6er in the summer time yet, so I am not sure how hot mine runs, but 220 is def a little warm for my liking. Maybe another intercooler of somesort. I dunno. :dunno:

No Buddy, I have to take a 6' bar and ramm out the Cat Gut yet.... Mind you the 220 is running heavy at maybe GCM of 13,500 lbs and in hot weather, but yea, I thought the 220 was a bit too warm as well.....

Even the 210 I would see regular, dismissed it as new engine break in heat, heavy loaded, working, maybe a little restricted air flow??? But I gotta do something.. We will wait to see what others say... KEEPING IN MIND YOU ALL ARE IN WINTER, AND IT IS DEAD SUMMER HERE!!!!! 90-95 at the beach a couple of blocks from my house, come on down I will buy you a few beers!!!

Thanks for the response 3633's

Hey no prob, and, it has been nothing like winter here. It was 75 here the other day. I am not sure how much a freer flowing exhaust would help with over all temps, but it may help some. Just a thought. And, if I am ever down your way, I will take ya up on the brew :thumb:

I have a cat delete pipe for you steve. Larry should be landing in China any moment, but before he left he said..."Oh by the way...send this to Australia." What a great guy. I have your trans fluid too. You may have to go to a Snow Water/Meth kit to keep your EGTs down. This should help engine temps as well. DEI also makes some addatives for Radiator fluids. That may be something cheap to try first. Let me see if I can find you a link to it.

Hello Patrick,

I am always suspect of additives... For what side affects there could be, and also mixing into engine coolants.. If it was such an easy cheap improvement there is no reason Ford would not already do it or recommend it.

Just have always thought the additives only benefited the people that sold them... I guess I will wait and see if others chime in about temps they are running when towing. I am not doing anymore really big work this summer, and my temps might drop anyway when it breaks in more and loosens up. I was just concerned about the big bullbar and lights obstructing airflow.

Running empty I am about sort of 194 to 202 in that range last couple of days...

Regards, Ranger in Oz.....
