Gauge Installation

Installed my Autometer gauges this weekend. Had some questions along the way and found this article with pictures that answered all my questions.

If you're going to be installing gauges you'll want to read this. GAUGE INSTALLTION

Only PITA was I didn't realize in advance I was going to have to drill and tap my intake, so I didn't have the extra fittings around. The Autometer boost guage only comes with one '1/8" FPT to 1/8' compression" fitting which you can use on the back of the gauge... if you'll be tapping into your intake elbow be sure to buy a '1/8" MPT to 1/8" compression' fitting also.

Tapping the exhaust for the EGT was much easier than I expected. Put a bunch of grease on my drill bit to catch the shavings and it worked great. Followed up with a shop vac just to be safe.

Best of all was learning about the blue wire with red stripe to tap into for the backlight on the gauges so they all dim with your factory gauges. I'll see if I can post a pic when I get home later.

OK... so now that I have gauges... more questions!!

My tranny temp seems to be right around 125-130 during normal street driving. What temps are normal for towing... and at what point are the temps harmful?

EGT... so far I've seen up to 1000 with just normal street driving, some heavy acceleration. For the 6.0L what EGTs are harmful?

I have heard instantious EGT temps of up to 1500 are ok, are you running a tuner? It helps a little if you put in your mods in your sig. Stock form I doubt you will see beyond 11-1200 deg.

I think trans temps of 200-220 I would start backing off. But not for sure on that hopefully someone else will chime in and help out.

I noticed they didnt have cool temp for 6.0I know why I found out the hard way it is a pain in the a***. Good thing i work in a machine shop.I would like to see how some of you have it.The prob is to long for the adaptor it calls for so i had to ues two adaptors and solder them together.
