Dad just bought an 07 F-250 Powerstroke with 78K on the OD and we have a few questions on fo ask.
When we go out to start it we turn the key on to wait for the glow plugs to warm but there isnt anylight that stays on indicating to wait to start. is it the light that looks like a coil? why doesnt it stay on longer than a couple of seconds when it is 39 degrees out?

The read out on the dash says there is water in the tank. how do we get the water out? is there a filter or something we need to change? what kind of problems can water cause the engine?

last but most important
what extra regular maintance proceders are there for a diesel that a gaser dont have?

Thanks for answering my noobie questions but we have never owned a diesel before and wanting to make the truck last.

Glow plug IS Lite with Coils only stays on when truck is Stone cold a few seconds,,,hardly come's on if at all on restarts,,,

Normal for water Lite to come on when key is in 'ON" Position,,,,Not normal for Water lite to be on when engine is running,,,

If lite is on with engine running drain fuel filter or replace it,, it's to the right of the Oil FIlet under the hood..

If your water/fuel light is on, the drain is under the driver's seat under the truck. That is where I would start first. If you have water in your fuel filter, then you have bigger issues.

Do regular oil changes, that is really important in the 6.0L due to shearing.

Oh btw, welcome to the Org. We are a good bunch of folks and I am sure you will find the answers to all of your questions here, if not then don't be afraid to ask. Congrats on the PSD.

bigger issues as in what. mom and dad is going to talk to the bank tomarrow to get it paid for. if its real bad problems we can still back out and we have another truck we are looking at that a friend is saleing cosignment though another dealer. i personally like it better since it is an 02 F-250 with the reliable 7.3L and it has a BA exhaust, but dad likes the 07 because it is classy...i told him if he wants classy by a Caddy, but he never listens to me:dunno:.

The 07 is a nicer truck. Plus it has powertrain warranty until 100,000 miles.

Got the seperator drained out today. there was a little water in it and there was brown particles that stayed in the water. the particles maybe have come from the drain pan since i did it at school and peole in my auto class tend to spit their chew spit in the pans.

Hey guys I got a question for ya. I just purchased a 1996 Ford F-250 Powerstroke and Installed new Bosch glow plugs and, It starts OK but, it blows white smoke until it's warmed up a little bit and when I give it the onion it makes a sound well it's hard to describe like it's sucking in a huge amount of air I know this may sound stupid but it's loud and the previous owner jacked with the exhaust pipe it looks like it's not all there it's cut off under the truck. It runs fine but it makes that noise as soon as i give it throttle it goes away and when I let up a little bit it comes back. But, when it's warmed up it don't do it. When I put in the glow plugs I noticed the turbo fines are a little chewed up should that be fixed ASAP or will it be ok?

Thanks,

Powerstrokes rule!!
