Mine only does it at very light acceleration and at light throttle to mantain speed just like yours. Although at normal idle speed, it doesn't close. My truck, being a '96, doesn't have a high idle, but if I prop something on the pedal to raise the idle to about 1200 when it's cold, the EBPV closes, and it sounds like a damn jet is sittin in my driveway. I can hear a heavy hissing from the tailpipe and what sounds like right at the back of the engine. I can almost hear a slight squeal from it, I think it's just so much air squeezing through such a tight space when the valve is closed.

Did you figure out what was going on? I'm a new 7.3 owner and am still getting familiar to the various sounds. Thanks!
