What classifies a Load Ranges D or E Tire?

Why are the Nitto Terra Grapplers in 305/55/20 size only rated to 65psi and 3160lbs instead of 80psi and 3640lbs like the rest of the LOAD E tires? Can these still be used on the F350s if we plow, or carry a lot of weight often or trailer constantly with the trucks?

Is there something on paper that states a D tire holds 60-65psi and at least 3000lbs weight, and a E holds at least 3200lbs weight and is 80psi? After seeing these "E " load Nitto specs im just confused.

There is a set thats less than a year old on ebay, theyre E rated 305/55/20s Terra Grapplers, but only 65psi and 3100~lb weight load capacity? Is that really E or only D?

There is load range which is C, D, E, ect. What you really want to look at is payload capacity not the load range. Load range is a general symbol. Depending on tire size you can have a bunch different payload capacities with just 1 load range. I run D's and I've seen D's with a payload of 2900 lbs. to 3500 lbs. It depends on tire size.

Its "ply rated" from back in Bias ply tire days even most E range tires are still only 4-6 plys.

I would be concerned more with the load capacity, I have 33X12.5X20 Toyo MTs that are E range and they only are rated for 2600:dunno:

Does a D rated tire wear faster than an E rated tire on our 8,000# trucks

We'll reason I ask is beause alot of people are saying their not gettin alot of life out of their Nittos but the ones usually saying that are running a D rated tire on the 8,000# truck and people with 1/2 tons seem to get decent life out of the Nittos.

i would guess that they 55 aspect ratio has something to do with the weight rating. The duallys use an 85 series tire that carries more weight than my 75's on the same 16" rim.

So if I bought a Nitto Terra Grappler that was only a 121 series could I get 40k miles out them as opposed to the 30k miles Ive heard people get.
