i was up at a carshow with one of my buddes...well there was a ford booth there just dedicated to their diesels, we started talkin to the guy because my buddys lookin to get rid of his 6.0 for a 6.4 and asked about waitin around to get a 6.7...the guy said i wouldnt hold my breath with the 6.7...it might not happen because of the economy, we might just end up with a more refined 6.4 from what this guy was sayin:dunno:

#2 ·
Hmm.... I wouldn't listen to him just yet.

#3 ·
I don't know about a refined 6.4 because navistar and ford ended the contract.

#4 ·
Exactly, but they could keep the design on of it, just changing some things, and they have to change the name of it.

#5 ·
They'd have to make a factory to build them in too though, because navistar wouldn't be makin em for em anymore.

#6 ·
Well I have heard, and this might just be a crazy rumor but after 2010 Dodge's contract with cummins is up. Maybe we can get lucky and have a factory Fummins? Don't quote me on that, just a rumor I heard while I was at the dodge dealership when my brother picked up his '08.

No one knows whats going to happen for sure. Who will dodge use? And I thought dodge worked out their tiff with Cummins?

#7 ·
Oh lets start another one of these threads...

#14 ·
Got that right. Maybe this is why Chrysler knows there time has come... :dunno:

#11 ·
They had an argument about something, not sure what it was and there were talks about ending their marriage. But as far as I know its all good now.

Dodge could have used a mercedes diesel when diamler benz still owned them, but now they were sold again so who knows what they would use. Or they could have made a small detroit diesel for them. Not to change the subject, but if you guys haven't seen the 63 chev truck on youtube with a 353 detroit you need to check it out. Its a 4x4 reg cab 63 chev with an old 2-stroke detroit. There is even a clip of it with a REAL JAKE BRAKE. They made em for the old 3 cyl detroits.

Chrysler was listed in a new article I read on Yahoo news as one of the top 15 companies that most likely will not survive 2009. Would be pretty amazing if ford ended up some how pulling in cummins. I think the market is way too unstable and Ford would be taking a huge risk trying to spin up a new motor platform in the financial crisis the country is going through now.....

#16 ·
If Ford did take on Cummins it would make financial sense, it would cost billions to set up a new factory but I would much rather see a Ford diesel that would kill a Cummins and the Durash!#.

The Scorpion that guy at the booth was talking about was probably the F150 version. Maybe he was confused.:dunno: I here that one is not coming out due to economy reasons.

As far as the Cummins. Ill pass. I have heard nothing but bad things about the new 6.7. In fact my brothers 08 6.7 only lasted 40k miles and 1 year before it crapped out. There are a lot more problems with it then the 6.4 Powerstroke.

All set with a Cummins in a Ford thanks. Prefer the V-8. Can't see how Ford would do all this in house design and testing for nothing...especially if the navistar contract is done.
I intend on having a "scorpion" F550 4x4 in 2012..and if it falls through...I'll keep the 7.3..

Let's see: Ford and Navistar are pi$$ed at each other; Dodge and Cummins are pi$$ed at each other. Its too expensive in this economy for either Ford or Dodge to develop, deploy and support their own in-house motors. (parts, supplies etc). So Ford goes to Cummins and Dodge goes to Navistar? And GM back to Detriot/Allison diesel (do they still exist?) Only in America...

#23 ·
ford and navistar should of worked out there differences....navistar builds great engines, and if ford wouldn't of pushed them so hard, the 6.0 and 6.4 problems would not of existed.

#24 ·
what 6.4 problems specifically?

#25 ·
Ok ford is possibly backing off on the 1/2 ton diesel. Not the 6.7. Their contract with navistar is done. Also Ford does not have to give up the Power Stroke name. They own that not navistar. Ford can use the powerstroke name as long as it wants to

Id buy a GMC Duramax before Id buy a Ford Cummins (this in the hypothetical case that Dodge was gone). Yes, I depise Ford junk that much that not even my beloved Cummins would make me buy one...

BUT, since a Ford Cummins aint gonna happen, Ill keep buying my Dodges. Atleast I have a good truck and engine and not a pile of parts waiting to find a place to fall apart

#29 ·
Ha ha Tim you already own a pile of parts waiting to fall apart. Its called a dodge truck:hehe:

I dont wanna start anything, but what is with everybody and the cummins? I own a cummins its good, but its not gods gift to the green earth. The vp trucks were junk, the 12 valves were good, the common rails were good, but the 6.7 is having lots of problems too! So if you look back at troublesome motors the cummins has had two troublesome motors, the powerstroke has had one, the 6.0l which really wasnt even that bad. The powerstrokes are proving to last just as long as the cummins are too! So i would hate to see ford pair with cummins. I am only talking about there light duty diesels, i dont have much experience with the big cummins motors, im sure they are great!! The only advantage i see to the cummins is they are easier to work on, and easier to make big power. Dont get me wrong i do like the cummins, but they are no better than the powerstrokes and dmax's

The thing with the 5.9L is you can't throw much more power than stock on it cause those turbo's can't handle more than 35 pounds of boost, and they run 32 stock.

#32 ·
WTF is peachtree supposed to mean?

#37 ·
True the lift pumps are junk and the vp pump is fussy. For somebody with a completely stock fuel system this can be troublesome. once you get a good fuel system its ok. But then theres 53 blocks... Im not saying they are bad and nobody should buy one. Im just saying that cummins have there problems too!! Everybody just seems to think tthey are trouble free and blah blah blah.
