it looks i might possibly end up taking over payments on my dads 04 6.0 and selling my 94 idi the problem is its going to be hard to make the 350ish payments on it and keep it maintained but i have been driving it lately and figured that it is alot better for me than my idi and im wondering if any of yall deep south tx people know of any jobs down here that pay pretty good. right now i work for a company that contracts for a transmongtainge product services ( petroleum storage/pipeline) so i know a few things about pipelines and what not but at 7 dollars an hour and no o.t. allowed right now as per the bossman and a 45 mile drive one way even with no other bills i dotn know that i can afford that.

i kinda feel obligated to do this deal though because i have run the truck off the road once and caused some body damage to it (front bumper, brush guard, corner light and mirror cover on the passenger side) and couldnt pay for the parts but i did all the work on it and then yesterday i went out to eat with the girlfriend and later in the day i noticed a big dent in the back boor along with paint scuffs and i dont know where it came from, i dont think i hit anything with it but it doesnt look like a hit from somebody else it looks like i hit a pipe somewhere

wow this has turned into an essay lol but i guess what im asking is, if im going to take over the payments on the truck does anybody have any ideas on how to make extra money to put towards it or know of a decent paying job down in the valley?

also im going to talk to my boss today about getting my fuel and insurance paid by the company and using the truck around work because honestly i think it would a better truck for me around work than my f-450 work truck is

sorry about the essay but im just stressed about this whole thing and i wanna make it right with my dad because im costing him money on this truck since he is pretty anal about his truck not having any damage on it (i think to a point that is what a truck is for)

Find a beater car and deliver pizza in the evenings... You can make good money doing that suprisingly. I listen to a financial guru daily and when I story your story, I automatically thought of Dave Ramsey...

You will hear all kinds of horror stories from his show in this same situation, son takes over payments then something happens where the son can't make the payments and then the father/son relationship becomes destroyed over a repo'd truck.

I would buy it from him out right. If you can't pay cash AT LEAST get your own loan for the truck where you are responsible if you can't make the payments. Dave would say you can't afford it so don't buy it, but I have a truck loan (again) and can't be a hipocrit! :D

Best of luck brutha!

Nice! Well I am in my 20s doing this so at least I am starting young!! LoL... We have a way to go yet, but we have also came a long way... Paying down the final credit card, have one car paid for... Mortgage is 1/4 of our income, insurances in place... Just can't get outta the diesel... I tried... Bought a cash truck (Chevy 2500hd) and hated it... So We back tracked into another F250... lol Ya win some ya lose some... We have a fairly big shovel so we will be debt free by Xmas easy...

I am a road warrior and love it... I am not delivering pizza's but I do home health physical therapy out here in the boonies south of town and make good money. I make my own sched, work as much or little as I want... Wouldn't have it any other way... Of course I drive a little jeep beater with 110K miles on it to destroy... :D

I have a buddy who uses his to haul cattle to and from actions and transports live stock to border states on the side to supplement his income. Just a thought

ROCK SOLID ADVICE ^

My wife and I have been doing the Dave Ramsey stuff for 2 1/2 years now. We will have our mortgage paid off within the next 3 years. Other than the mortgage, WE HAVE NO DEBT!!!!
Congrats! This is great to hear.

Thanks!! :D

Yeah, we didn't do so well in the truck department... We we upside down on our last 05, sold it and paid the difference to the bank... We had a 30K loan out on that one... We are WELL below that with the newer 05. I beat on the salesman for this truck...

Dave Ramsey is great, just don't backslide like we did. We havent used credit cards in over a year now... Paid PLENTY of stupid tax on dumb 30K cars and other crud...

At any rate, to the OP, don't put your relationship between yourself and your pop get stressed just for a truck... :D

I want to be dept free, tell me how. Where do you listen to this Dave Ramsey? Is it just a Texas thing? Sorry for the hyjack. Back to topic.

I bought my 47k truck just a few years ago, and that was was well before I became financially responsible. I have tried to sell my truck, to no avail :dunno:. One day I will be dept free, and I'll never look back. I can't wait :woot:

I've tossed around the idea a bit of selling myself on the corner. But seeing as I'm ugly and the GF wouldn't like it I haven't pulled the trigger yet. But I'm sure there are some big ugly girls willing to pay for some lovin.:rofl:

The big ones have always liked me  I found a hot LITTLE lady to marry though. I told her that she'd make more than me on the corner... she said no :hehe:

I am not sure we gave baddkarma the advice he wanted... I was only giving the advice on what I would do and have learned from my own and other's mistakes.

Hope you arn't upset with our advice, maybe you just haven't had time to check back...

Good luck with whatever you choose to do. :D

As far as jobs go in south Texas, I would look at mechanical or general contractors. With all the bases getting some sort of make over, jobs in the construction industry are in high demand. You may start off at a wage that is less but stick with it and you can make some money. A couple of companies that I know here in San Antonio that are always looking for people are... LC Mosel, AJ Monier, Comfort Aire, AC Technical Services, Gillette Air Conditioning... These are all Mechanical contractors here in San Antonio.

As far as the truck goes, if yours is paid for, keep it till you can afford your dad's. Don't start down the payment road unless you absolutely have to. Listen to Dave Ramsey and you'll hear situation like you are in or maybe fixing to get into. He will say you/they have no business buying that truck if you can't afford it.

If you or anyone need phone numbers to these companies, PM me and I'll give them to you. No guarantees they are hiring but they typically are. With the amount of work coming to San Antonio, it would be good to get in on the ground floor.

yall didnt upset me i just havent had internet since i posted this and just for the record i didnt pay for my truck, it was a grad present that i worked my a** off for and i still work hard to take care of it but it just isnt effective for what i use a truck for, most of which is driving and the idi doesnt get the mileage and it isnt going to last as long as i need it to

#28 ·
Now come on gas mileage isn't crap when you don't have a payment.
What makes you think you're truck wont last long enough to get you thru till you can buy you're own truck?

And quit driving you're dads truck and you wont have any more issues with it.

Part of the problem the economy is seeing is due to the I want it now generation. Which is why there are so many people listening to who ever trying to get out of debt. You are young so deal with you're truck and save money look for abettor job or try and excel at you're current job or like some said join the military ,and GO TO COLLEGE.

#23 ·
You could join the military, lets face it with today's economy, good secure jobs are getting harder to find and even harder to keep. Check it out, it was good to me and my family. Plus you get out from under your mom and dads eye all the time, you grow up pretty quickly.:thumb:

Dont cpmplain abot the job you have some people would be happy just to have it right now
I didn't really take it that he was complaining, just looking for something more economically beneficial for him. So if he can change to something that better suits him it will open a job for those that would be happy to have it.

There's several plasma donation centers in Brownsville. You can make anywhere bewteen $200-$300 a month donating plasma and it's tax free. all you do is sit there and earn about 10-12 bucks an hour.

...or

Join the military. Totally agree. Very easy to make rank thee days.... consistent paychecks.... great benefits.... comprhensive health insurance.... GI Bill for school following your enlistment should you decide to get out. Got any questions about it, there's a lot of people on this forum who are in and can give you advice.

i posted my idi for sale on here a while back and shortly after it started basically falling apart on me, im kinda glad it happened why i still own it honestly because i would have felt realy bad if somebody bought it and then started having problems with it. that is why i dont see it lasting long enough for me to be able to afford to buy something else.
