Hissing Noise

I have done some mods -- including a 4 inch TB exhaust and a DP chip. Now that it is cold out (10 degrees right now) not only can I hear the turbo whine -- but I also hear what I think is the waste-gate hissing -- until it warms up (like 3 or 4 miles of driving). Is this normal? Was this happening before but I just couldn't hear it?

Thats your EBPV staying shut to warm up your truck. They suck and no one seems to like them!

Its not the wastegate, you never hear that. What you are hearing is the EBPV, Exhaust Back Pressure Valve. Its a butterfly valve in the exhaust right after the outlet of the turbo that closes when the engine is cold to aid in warmup. Also makes a nice exhaust brake with some wiring.

Yeah, i actually drew up a schematic for it. Im not sure if it's in the tech files or not. If you want it i can give you a copy of it though.

i hated and unpluged my EBPV. i have TB 4" as well...no muff. no res....once it got cold mine would do it..very loud and annoying...there is a small plug right by the turbo..pull it out and tuck it in somewhere out of the way..and then just let the truck warm up a little longer when cold...
