I have done some mods -- including a 4 inch TB exhaust and a DP chip. Now that it is cold out (10 degrees right now) not only can I hear the turbo whine -- but I also hear what I think is the waste-gate hissing -- until it warms up (like 3 or 4 miles of driving). Is this normal? Was this happening before but I just couldn't hear it?
Its not the wastegate, you never hear that. What you are hearing is the EBPV, Exhaust Back Pressure Valve. Its a butterfly valve in the exhaust right after the outlet of the turbo that closes when the engine is cold to aid in warmup. Also makes a nice exhaust brake with some wiring.
i hated and unpluged my EBPV. i have TB 4" as well...no muff. no res....once it got cold mine would do it..very loud and annoying...there is a small plug right by the turbo..pull it out and tuck it in somewhere out of the way..and then just let the truck warm up a little longer when cold...
