White smoke...

Hello everyone, Ijust signed up here and i just bought a 1999 ford PSD. But i have been having problems.

1. Hard to start. Even when warmed up
2. Untill it is warmed up it will smoke a white color.
3. When i get on it there is no power / very slugish.
4. I put injector cleaner in it, and replaced the fuel filter.
I thought it was bad injectors but i was reading and some say it may be the piston rings. I have had a rough idle but not all the time. When it is all warmed up then its ok but still kinda slugish. Thanks

The hard start/rough idle could be different things. You could possibly need a CPS, UVCH clips, or clean the pick up screen in your fuel tank. I doubt it's piston rings unless you're smoking all the time. The white smoke you're getting is normal under cold start-ups & should go away when it's warm. Try plugging your rig in 3hrs. before you need to use it. If you think you may have bad injectors, get a scan tool & run a buzz & cyl contribution test. This will tell you if you have any ailing injectors, which could also be your problem.

Alright, im going to try and take it up to the shop soon to run a scan, and i got a oil leak i need to find, but i found a good forum on here about oil leaks.

Do you got any way i could check to see what it could be, its still slugish after it warms up.

I would say get the scan, 1st. With the CPS, it's a matter of whether or not it's going. These are prone to failure & could cause loss of power, stalling, & not starting. As for your UVCH clips, it's a project, but it's easy. You'll need to take your valve covers off & check to see if you have the UVCH(Under Valve Cover Harness) has the clips on that hold the inside portion of the wiring harness. Without the clips, it's possible for your UVCH to come apart over time & give poor performance. You can get the clips from Ford. & with the pick up screen; wait until you have under of 1/4 tank to do this one. You need to drop the tank & simply check & see if there are clumps of crud on the pickup screen. Take it out of the tank & spray it with brake cleaner- ONLY if it's covered in crap.

Alright thanks man, but yeah im still going to get the scan one way or another, but it wouldnt hurt to check everything else. When i changed the fuel filter it was nasty.

Then there's a sign you should check your screen. It'll give you problems sooner or later, so giving it an inspection wouldn't hurt either.

I was doing the 5.6k ICP mod today and there suppose to be an o-ring on it, but mine was gone... Will this make it smoke?

An o-ring? Are you talking about the rubber backing on the ICP harness? The only thing I know about resistor mods is the 2 ends of the resistor should NEVER touch each other. They are bent so they won't touch each other right? In the right holes for corresponding wires?

Yeah thats all done right and its fine, but when i was doing it i seen that the o-ring was missing.
