I am needing to know if the 6.9 and 7.3s will interchange exhaust manifolds. Im under the impression that all major hardparts have the same bolt patterns but wanted to make sure

I seriously doubt it. The heads arent even the same.

Ok thanks, I have never messed with 6.9 before. Somone told me the heads were similar. This is just my new project Im working on.

Wow you guys, come on we are forgetting to ask a VERY important question.

When you are refering to a 7.3, do you mean 7.3 powerstroke, or 7.3 IDI (1987-1994 diesel)?

If you are talking about the powerstroke, then no they wont interchange. If you are talking about a 7.3 IDI then yes, they will.

Good luck and use lots of penetrating lube before you start:thumb:

Were talking about just 7.3, not a powerstoke. And I dont think you really need headers for a naturally aspirated diesel. I guess it depends, but I have never seen them

yeah if it is the IDI then yeah they interchange but no in the turbo 7.3

Any 6.9 or 7.3 IDI exhaust manifolds will interchange. But only if they are for a truck application, I think you run into some issues if you try to use exhaust manifolds from bigger trucks, like IH trucks and what not. Careful with the wording guys, you can use 7.3 turbo IDI exhaust manifolds as well.....just cant use 7.3 Powerstroke exhaust manifolds.

Yes there are headers for diesels. Stans-headers sells them for the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI's, I think they are around $300. Will they help, you bet. If you dont ever plan on turbo'ing it, then I would say go for them. They will reduce EGT's so you can turn your pump up a little bit more to get more power out of them. You can also get headers for PSD's I believe, or you could go all fancy and custom make your own headers, but I dont see much help if you were doing it on a turbo'ed truck.
