My Brother-in-law owns a 34' Sea Ray Cruiser and is very unhappy with our local marine dealers pricing with winter storage/service ($3500/Year). He is playing with the idea of purchasing a 38 foot 15k tri-axle bumper pull trailer to tow the boat out to Eastern Long Island and store the boat/trailer for the winter season and then a return trip to Brooklyn in the spring. The cost of the trailer would offset the seasonal winterizing.
My questions are:
1. Can my 02 F-350 CC SB even bumper pull a 15k trailer SAFELY?
2. The combined GVWR would be at 25,900#(9,900 Truck+15k boat/trailer), but the width of the boat is 146 inches (12'-2") and Length of the trailer is 38 feet. Dumb, but this is probably oversized?
3. Legally- Can I even tow something this large as my vehicle has Passeneger plates and I would not be doing this service for hire/fuel/lunch?
4. Do I forget this whole mess and hire someone else?
The last thing I would want is to have DOT/NYPD Insurance headaches...
