That's pretty much it. I've never seen a 6.9l. The earliest of diesel trucks I ever dealt with were the 7.3IDIs. Does anyone have pics @ different angles of their 6.9? I'd just like to learn more about it. :thumb:
here is a couple pics of the outside of the truck none of the engine I just remembered he will not be on in a while he is going to Kentucky to get married this week so he will prob not get on here for a lil bit
he uses the truck for a mud truck but he used to drive it as his dailey driver
thank god they came out with turbos on these diesels. I used to drive/ride in an old ford work truck to school every day. It was the 6.9 and what a slug. It would pull things but as far as speed or even being able to take off and not slow the traffic behind you... forget it! I think i remember it topped out at 75 and that was WOT for about 2 minutes in a straight line. Wouldnt budge. It ran forever though. I still see it around this area sometimes cruising around the vineyards. Im sure it has well over 300k.
a 7.3 is basicly a 6.9 bored out. But you cant bore out a 6.9 and expect to throw in 7.3 internals in it. I cant remeber the reason why but a local diesel machine shop operator told me that.
6.9's came out in 83 and ran thru 87. The 7.3 replaced the 6.9 in 88. As far as having a choice of either a 6.9 or 7.3 i have never heard of that in any year:dunno:
when i get back to florida ill post some good pis of Ol' Brown
