Anyone know of a good fuel drier/ water seperator additive I can use in a 6.0? I apparently got some bad fuel, and I am tired of crawling under the truck. Thanks in advance.
just pick up a can or bottle at any gas station. all of them are pretty much the same. happened to me one time and went to station, put a bottle in and fired right up.
I was looking for an additive for a diesel...HEET is for 4 stroke gas engines only..Or atleast on the bottle I had in the shop says in red letters on the back, "do not use in 2 cycle gas engines or diesel engines", But thanks anyways :thumb:
Well, the water seperator on the truck was doing it's job, however I got tired of crawling under the truck every 10 miles to drain it,( why didn't ford leave it on top of the engine like the old 7.3?:doh so I got so Diesel Dry by CRC and it apparently worked, no light in over 40 miles now. Thanks for the reply.
Can anyone give me there opinions on using Sea Foam or Diesel 911? I can't find any CRC Diesel Dry. I guess I have some water in my rear tank, the last time I switched to that tank it started missing, clacking loudly, and smoked for a couple of minutes. I ran it up to about 1500 rpm for around 30-45 seconds and it cleared up (after switching back to the front tank). I'm wondering if I should drain the tank or just put some Diesel 911 in. Any suggestions?
Wel I have heard good things about diesel 911 when I was driving otr, but I have never used any personally... i would think any water remover should be basically the same..Just make sure it says it is ok to use in diesel, Because some of them are for gas only:thumb:
I understand there are emulsifiers and demulsifiers. Demulsifiers separate the water from the fuel (assisting the fuel/water separator I suppose) while the emulsifiers blend the water with the fuel so it will be burned off with the fuel. I also understand the alcohol is a big no no with the Powerstroke and alcohol is often used to eradicate water so I'm a bit leary of some of these products. I guess I'm looking to find if anyone has had any BAD experiences with Sea Foam or Diesel 911. Another post alleges that Sea Foam contains alcohol so I guess that's out. Does anyone really know? I put Stanadyne Performance blend in my tanks a few days ago and it claims to help with water removal, but I haven't been brave enough to switch to that tank yet. I'm thinking of replacing the fuel filter before I switch tanks. Any logic to that idea? I had a water in fuel light last month after I briefly switched to the rear tank, but I drained the bowl and never had any problem with it until I switched tanks a couple of weeks ago. I drove about five miles on the rear tank and parked it at home. The next day I fired it up and it started running rough after about a minute. Switched to the front tank and "blew it out" and no problem since.
Not being a smart @$$ but snow has nothing to do with having water in your fuel.....It hasn't snowed here in almost 5 years, but I had water in my fuel the other day.
heet makes another product called iso-heet especially for diesels i work at oreilly auto parts and it runs $2.49 a bottle it should be right next to the original heet the iso heet is in a red bottle
I haven't had a water in fuel light again (and didn't the last time it acted up)and I drove it about 10 miles on the rear tank tonight with no trouble, so hopefully, the water is gone. I've got Stanadyne in that tank now, so that should help. I think I'll drain the bowl in the morning just to see if there's any water in it.
It is always best to get the water out rather than send it through the injectors with
an emulsifier. Use the trap as you did or drain and drop the tank. That is what
is best for the engine.
ISO Heet Okay? Will I need to replace the fuel filter after using?
