im plannin on putting subs behind my seat and want to know what is my best way to go:dunno:. does anyone got pictures of their setups behind their seats?
well it depends do you have the bench seat or the 40-20-40 split seats? i have a crew cab but i have 2 JL 10w1's behind the seat and the box is shallow enough i didn't have to slide it forward any. so if you have the bench you should be able to do teh same
i have two 12's behind my 40/20/40 seats with plenty of leg room for me but im only 5'9" so..... anyway the box was put together kinda scrappy but it works and actually hits good and hard. sorry for the crappy angle on the pic
But he was asking for an OBS. this pick is of a superduty which has wasy more room.
I have a pair of 10" kenwood boxes behind the rear seat of my 96 4dr. The seat only had to go ahead one click.
ive got the full bench seat in mine, im plannin on running 2 kicker 10" subs with a 600 watt amp and try to get or make a ported box. r yalls boxes ported?
cool...since its in a reg cab truck, i'd make it ported anyway. If the box is ported, then the subs dont move as far in and out...that making it easier to put in cramped spaces
i use to have two 10" jl's they were the wo models so they were slim. had em in a crew cab with a sealed box and they sounded good enough also. i was using a 600 watt rockford fosgate amp.
Well, guys. Its kind of like the tuned diesels. I would not just build a box and throw in a sub. Most subs require (X) cubic feet of air space. Ports might cause issues if the sub is not designed for them. There are also, goo and bad ways to tune a ported box. USually you should not need a big soloberic style box.
Believe it or not, I had a 92 reg cab ranger when I was just fresh out of highschool with two eights, two m&m 6x9's and a set of 5" mids and 1" tweets with cross overs. I ran the two subs on a 200 watt amp and the rest on a 300 watt amp. WOOOO what great sound. THe subs fit nicely, the 6x9's were in rear pillars, and the mids and highs were in the doors.
Just my .02 worth.
I never really got off on big bass. I like good sound.
not really. believe it or not but i had more room with my bench seats with my 12's than these new 40/20/40's
if you were close i would sell you mine and buy 10's
i have a 92 f150 with the full bench with 2 12s in a ported box and i only had to move the seat up about 2.5-3 inches. i built the box myself and its not that hard but it does take some time and a fair amount of enginuity but it can be done
It's all in what kind of sound you want. If you want tight, "punchy" bass (drum solos and whatnot) you want a sealed box. If you want low bass that you hear a half a mile away, a ported box would be your best bet. You can make a sealed box loud and low but you have to have a lot of power to do it. Most subs these days will work in a small, sealed box (approx 1 cu. ft. each). Subs usually require at least twice the air space to efficiently operate in a ported or vented box. Nastystroker, if you need any stereo equipment, pm me  (I don't sell any personally but worked for a car audio shop for 5 years that has great prices) :thumb:
Sorry i dont have any pics or access to my truck to take them....I made a custom box for 2-12's that fits behind the seat on my single cab. It goes all the way across and is sealed. I had to make it thin so i can still have some leg room and the speakers sit low in the box.
If you still have the owner's manuals from your subs, they should have specs in them. If you don't, just get on Kicker's website ( I think that's what you said you had), and they'll probably have them on there
what style seat do you have in your truck? I have the 40/20/40 in mine and i just built two boxes that go behind the seats. IMO get the 10's they just seem to have a better sound they don't sound as floppy, plus in a regular cab space is always an issue.
ive got the full bench seat in mine, im most people are telling me to go with 10's so thats what ill probably get. im looking into getting kickers for subs.
jl audio 10" stealth box with 500 series amp will rock your truck never been a kicker fan
