Cranks, no start.

Gotta love it. Last week I got the usual EGR codes and was about to have it serviced. Those are the p0404 and p1335 codes.

So the info is at hand, it's a 2006 6.0 with roughly 36,000 on it. No mods what so ever.

Went out to run to the store this morning and it would crank, tried to start and then quite. It will kick every now and then while cranking but won't start.

The codes are:

p0261
p0264
p0267
p0270
p0273
p0276
po279
p0282

and of course the two EGR codes.

The p02xx codes show as cylinder "x" injector circuit low, one number for each cylinder.

What could cause all cylinders to exhibit this same code? HPOP, low on oil, etc?

Your thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess we shall find out, it's at the dealership.

Ken,
Your FICM is bad. The good news is that it should be covered 100% by Ford, including the $100 deductible! (Those suckers list for $800 from the dealership)...

Thanks much for the info guys. I know the engine is covered for 100k which includes the EGR. Will it include the FICM? By that I mean no deductible.

Of course the extended warranty may make some difference but I doubt it.

Thanks again.

You have 100K on the motor which includes the FICM. 36mo/36K miles with no deduct. the balance with $100 deduct., but I was thinking some later trucks have a longer bumper to bumper no deduct. warranty?

Actually, the FICM should be covered as an emissions item which is why there is no deductible and will be covered up to 100k. Who did you end up taking it to? Let us know how it goes.

Sanderson Ford. It's where I bought it and only a few miles from the house. They've been very good from the beginning so they are elected to take care of it too :).

And thanks again guys. I'll have it back today or tomorrow. I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Sanderson will definitely take good care of you.

Got my truck back yesterday afternoon :woot:. As usual, Sanderson was excellent :thumb:.

Yep guys, it was the FICM. My only question is what would tell you that it was the FICM instead of the HPOP?

Ken, glad to hear that! The way we could tell is by the codes that were thrown. Those codes are always related to the FICM or the FICM wiring. The wiring is a bit unusual, so if it were just one or two codes, it could likely be traced back to the wiring harness. Here's a great article about the FICM and its operation.

Scuffy, I drive a 6.4, not the 6.0, but can you recommend a good scanner for the 08s? I know that Ford monitors a lot of things now that generic OBDII scanners won't pick up.

Excellent FICM article Evil Eye. Yep SCUFFY, that's exactly why I bought a code reader, can't tell anything anymore with all the computers on board.

Russ,
Even the 6.0L has a bunch of Ford specific parameters that are not picked up with the generic OBD II scanner. If you do pick one up from the store, it must specifically say that it will read manufacturer specific codes. You may want to consider AutoEnginuity from ITP Diesel, which will allow you to not only read codes but also to data log and perform certain diagnostic procedures. It is software that installs on a standard laptop computer and plugs into your OBD II port.

Not personally, since several of my friends have it...
